Flawless
I dropped probably 50 different knives in my shopping cart before finally deciding on this one. The full Damascus handled knife was a strong contender but I preferred the beauty of the wood. The knife I received is flawless. It is tight, clean, perfectly symmetrical and balanced. The opening mechanism is smooth and the liner lock clicks in effortlessly. This Katsu knife is the nicest knife I own. I’ve seen questions about the Damascus. I can say almost certainly that the blade is a Japanese style San Mai construction with a high carbon steel core, clad in Damascus steel. It is a thing of beauty and comes shaving sharp. With respect to the country of origin, people have been citing a blurb from a website Katsu-knife.com about construction in a province of China. Katsu-knife.com is a fake copycat website that takes money and does not ship knives. Katsuknife.com is the legitimate source of these Katsu knives and their customer service was very helpful, responsive and appreciative of my questions. They replied to my question about where their knives are made and said that knives were designed in Japan , materials are sourced from The United States and Japan and construction is done in their factory in China. I never write review but I felt so strongly about this knife that I wanted to share my experience. I’m glad I chose this particular knife but I bet you couldn’t go wrong with any of the Katsu knives. It’s a strong 5 stars for me

Cool little knife
I'm not a knife collector, but I did want to have a blade that is larger than the one on my swiss tool, and I've always wanted to own a piece of damascus steel. This is a beautiful knife. It will definitely see some use in my house, but I can see how some people would keep this as a showpiece. The opening and closing actions are smooth, and the knife feels solid. There's no wobble or flex anywhere, and the spine is plenty thick. Everything is aligned perfectly. In short it is what you would expect from a Japanese made product. It seems to be a real forged blade, but I am no expert. Mine was shipped sharp but not razor sharp. I tried looking up the Katsu knife company on the internet, but I could not find any information. Without finding any info on the knife maker, it is hard to verify the country of origin or if indeed this was hand forged. But even if this came out of China or Pakistan whoever made it clearly has some skill. I would not carry this around without it's sheath. There's no spring to snap it shut like you would find on a pocket knife, and it's fairly easy to open up. If I kept this in my front pocket, I would worry about the blade eventually partially deploying. There's a liner lock to keep the blade in place when opened which is great, but for safety purposes I wish there was a mechanism to keep it closed too. Update: I am changing my rating to 5 stars. While the knife opens easily I don't think it is any more likely to open on you compared to most other folders this size. I still really like this knife, but of late it's mostly been assigned desk duty. For my tastes it is a little too heavy to be in my pocket all the time (it weighs about 5.2 oz and I want something more in the 3-3.5oz range), and the blade length is a bit overkill for my everyday needs. Also due to the heavy metal handle, the knife balance is biased more towards the back than I would prefer. The wood scale or G10 version is probably a better choice if you want to carry this with you all the time. These are all personal preferences so your mileage may vary. Still though, it's just a striking piece to hold and handle. Edit: Some reviews speculate that this is laser etched steel rather than true Damascus. I don't believe that is the case. The reason is that if the steel were laser etched, I would expect the pattern in the product photos and all the user photos to be identical. But if you look carefully at the patterns in each photo, there are notable variations, which leads me to believe this is the real thing.

Amazing knife when you need to slice everything around you razor thin!
I cannot say enough about how much I really do love this knife. As a person that has spent the last 22 years slowly learning what to look for when trying to find a knife, believe me when I say that this is one is easily among my top 3! I do not buy knives based off of name alone (but i do love almost everything about Benchmade knives...except the price!) but I am a rather demanding person who typically uses my knives more than most of my coworkers. Here's my Top 3 breakdown in case anyone is wondering: Top 3: #1 - Benchmade Bedlam 860 Knife, Scimitar (this is my standard go to knife for just about everything #2 - Katsu Razor Knife #3 - Benchmade Infidel Automatic OTF (not a particularly useful knife but the quality and blade strength are amazing...plus it's an OTF!) Pros: - Sharp as hell out of the box! Can shave your arm and leave it feeling smooth as butter. - Small enough to easily be considered an every day carry (EDC) knife - Easy to sharpen - Very unique look. Honestly resembles a straight razor - Deploys from closed to open and back very quick and smooth Cons: - Could use a little stiffer mechanism to keep the blade in the closed position. This bad boy will open with the slightest bit of effort which manages to be both a good and a bad thing. Also: - Blade will dull quickly with heavy use. I would not consider this a heavy duty utility type blade; however; it will have zero problem cutting anything as long as the blade is sharp (duh). But....because it is such a breeze to resharpen this is hardly an issue. - Makes a terrible hammer! Well there ya go. An amazing knife at an equally amazing price! Believe me when I say you cannot go wrong with this blade!!

Good quality for acquired
Not bad for the price. Really a 4.5 star rating. Might change the rating to a 5 star based since the build to price ratio is comparable. Feels light and ergonomic. Definitely EDC style. Bamboo design helps fingers wrap into the grooves. Tighter tolerances than expected. Blade doesn't wiggle at all. Locks solidly. Great thumb rest along the spine. Blade comes razor sharp out the box with a better than expected grind (resembling typical Japanese kitchen knife tapers). Very smooth action unlike the carbon/titanium one which costs ~3 times the price. I can see myself getting use to the deployment, but not my cup of tea. If you like this type of deployment, you'll enjoy this knife.
