National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Seashells

Beautiful and helpful illustrations that coincide with descriptions in the back. Most of the shells are northern and southern US to the Gulf and Caribbean.

We go to the beach each summer with our grandsons. They love to collect shells and try to identify them. This book is a tremendous resource.

Such a thick book with hundreds of clear vibrant photos- easy for matching to shells!

This is a very good reference book. I’ve found it very helpful in identifying shells we gathered in Baja California. Most of the North American shell guides focus primarily on shells found in Florida and along the East Coast. This book had more west coast shell information. It would be nice to be able to find a book solely focused on the west coast but I haven’t found one that is still in print and reasonably priced. This Audubon guide is the best one out there.

I've been wanting this book for a while. I go on a beach vacation every year and always bring back a bucket of shells. I want to bring this with me to help me identify the ones that I find and bring home. If you haven't used an Audubon Field Guide before - they are great. I have several for plants and birds. There are a lot of pictures and thoughtful categorizations to help you find the creature or object that you are looking for. I keep the birds one on a bookshelf by the window where I can see my birdfeeders.

Love this book. I bought it used, good condition. Not so much...water damage at the back of book, as well as all outer pages.

The Audubon series of field guides is excellent

Bought this as a gift for my partner (whom has a fiery passion for shells), and she said it was exactly what she was looking for in terms of a field identification guide.

It is nice to know that you can actually depend on a brand name. I have purchased many of Audubon's Field Guides on a very wide range of topics, and have never been disappointed. This book is no exception. All are made with high quality materials and very sturdy which comes in handy for a book you actually like to take along in the field with you.I feel that this book fits (and benefits) all levels of expertise. With the beautiful full color photography, even the complete novice can rather quickly identify most anything they will encounter. If you are a little more advanced collector, you can find the information also. I would recommend this book as "the one" if you had to narrow it down to your first book on the subject, or if you plan to build a more complete library.
