Works as it should
Works as it should and better than Lisle's semi circular one because it will save you from not only dropping bolts inside the timing cover but also by holding the sprocket (gear) in-place when you take out the pump. However it is important to know that even if you use the tool (this or any other brand for that matter) to hold the sprocket in-place from moving and the tensioner from recoiling, there is a high probability that you will have to adjust (loosen) the tensioner. If you get the whining noise after replacing the water pump you will have to open the timing cover. Ecotec water-pump replacement inside the engine bay is a frustrating job. Use all three bolts that are provided to tighten down the tool to the sprocket and also make sure to secure the tool to the block (to prevent movement) by using bolts of the access cover. Thank you

Has Advantages & Disadvantages. Be careful.
Advantage - no way to accidentally drop a bolt into the engine because it covers the entire hole. A+ for that idea.Disadvantage - on the Lisle model, the bolts that attach to the gear are specially designed to float even when tightened. This model has regular fully threaded bolts, SO, when using this model do not tighten the center bolts that attach the gear. Just run them into the gear a few threads leaving them loose and you won't damage your pump like I did .... I accidentally pulled the water pump shaft slighty causing the impeller to rub the housing. (If you leave the 3 inside bolts loose, this unit should work great, but if you tighten them either on the removal or install, you will mess up your water pump.)

Very difficult to use if space is limited
The product is designed well and the price is very reasonable. However, I would caution anyone using this product to make sure you have enough room between the inner fender and the front of the engine. I used this on a 2006 Malibu and there wasn't enough room to get the bolts lined up and started when reattaching the timing chain gear to the water pump. It was like building a ship in a bottle with mirrors. If you have limited space use the other brand that is shaped like a half moon, not a full circle like this one. I bought this because it will prevent the bolts from falling down into the engine. The downside is it limits access to line up and start the bolts.

Deep enough to prevent anything from falling in.
The tool worked great on a 2010 Cobalt 4cylinder. Once put in the opening there was no way for anything to fall in so it made me feel more comfortable removing the sprocket bolts. Definitely recommend.
