I say new ones because at the gym you usually have well worn bars to use, many of which are no longer shiny at all.I'm not sure why the low rating of 400 pounds, but that's still plenty for the vast majority of lifters. At my strongest I could have done a squat at that weight, but I don't recall going heavier.The listing also specifies home use only, and not commercial. Other bars in this price range or lower list heavier capacities and the ability to be used in a commercial setting.
