Great "Old Fashioned" digital watch
This is a well-constructed, light, multi-purpose digital watch. I depend on it: 1. Quicker to check time than a cell phone 2. I use the alarm function daily at home or on the road. Can set 3 different alarms. 3. The stopwatch is quite helpful for timing walks/rides/kids events, whatever 4. The timer is easy to set and use no matter where you are. Quicker and easier than a kitchen stove timer that you can't hear if you're doing something out of the kitchen, for instance The settings are easy, reliable. The battery (Cr2016) lasts for a couple of years. This is NOT a watch that tracks physical activity/physiological parameters. I had an Apple Watch that did that, but gave it away in part because when in use the charge lasted less than 24 hours so I had to recharge it at least once a day. It also had a bewildering number of apps that were of no use to me and were subject to sharing data.. I've had 3 iterations of this watch over the last 15-20 years. Great, functional watch. My only complaint is that changing the battery is difficult and should probably be done by a jeweler. I've tried after watching YouTube videos and have changed the battery, but each time have lost some functionality of the watch--the last time I lost the alarm for instance...

A good cheap watch when that's all you need
I can't remember where I first came upon this watch but it is perfect for me and whenever the battery finally runs out or I lose it I buy a new one. I don't need an expensive, designer watch for everyday use. We do not dress formally at work and to be honest a really fancy watch would be out of place. I'd also be afraid of scratching it or losing it. What I need is something that tells the time. A stopwatch and alarm are also useful. This watch has all of that and is very affordable. It's cheaper to buy a new one when the battery runs down (which takes a long time, well over a year at least) than to replace the battery. It's also pretty durable. It's been banged and dropped regularly and has never quit.

Great watch for a great price!
Louder than my old watch. Easy to set and read. Like the options and love the fit!

Long term review!
UPDATE (Nov 30, 2019) I just replaced the battery again, the watch is still working fine, including the indiglo button. UPDATE (Oct 11, 2018) Just a month after I wrote this review, I went on vacation with my family, I spent a lot of time in the pool with this watch on, I guess the water might have loosen the indiglo button because it started working again. I have upgraded this review to 4 stars, the only bad thing with this watch is the low quality wrist band. ORIGINAL REVIEW (Dec 05, 2017) I originally bought this watch on December 11, 2011, the case is still going strong, I had to replace the battery last year, the original strap lasted a couple of years only, then I got a Timex Genuine Leather 18mm Brown Replacement Watchband , that again lasted only a couple of years. Finally I just got a couple of Ritche 18mm Nato Straps , I hope they last longer than the original Timex ones. The indiglo button doesn't work anymore, everything else works fine. PROS: - Sturdy watch case. CONS: - Screen can be easily scratched. - Original Timex watchbands don't last enough. - Indiglo button fails after 2 years. All in all, it is a good watch.

The Timex T49042 is a great watch!! I am very, very satisfied!
After a few years of not having a watch, I began searching for a watch that met my visual and feature requirements. This Timex T48042 watch fits my desires perfectly. The watch screen is large enough to easily read, and the layout of it is also very good. It shows the time in large digits, while also displaying the day and the date in smaller digits. It has a stopwatch/lap function with a 99+ lap function. When the 99th lap is reached, the lap counter resets to 0, but the timer continues to time accordingly. It has a large "Indiglo" button directly below the screen which provides ample light in darkness to read the entire screen with ease. The watch band is very comfortable and has 9 holes for fitting. The inside of the band (the part that touches the wrist) has a very soft material, I'm guessing that it is nylon according to the product description, stitched to it, which makes the watch quite comfortable. The outside of the band is a combination of brown leather and black nylon, which gives it a very nice look and feel to it. The watch head is a forest green and the buttons are a greenish-tan color. Overall, the colors work beautiful together and was one of the reasons I was attracted to this watch. The watch is not waterproof, but it is water resistant to approximately 100m. So be careful if getting near water with this watch as water may manage to get inside the watch. I have not has any problem, but I am relatively careful when near water with this watch. I, personally, have not found any cons or problems with this watch. It is well built and should last quite a while if taken care of. Overall, I am very satisfied with this watch. The functionality, colors, and feel work very well together, and it is a pleasure to own and wear. I fully recommend this watch.

I used to love the Timex T48042 but no longer
This was the perfect watch. Large display, great functions, durable, inexpensive. All of the features on every T48042 I've owned worked great. They last me several years, until the watch band breaks, the face is more scratched than I like, or the control buttons become difficult to get to work. But I have always gotten a great life from them. I like them so much, I have bought nine of them over the past ten years. I have four in reserve right now, so I can continue to have this model after Timex decides to discontinue them. So why the one star, don't buy again? Timex has changed the design - replacing the battery (available through Amazon for $0.61 each) is no longer simple. It used to be just a small jeweler's Phillips head and good eye sight. But the three I just bought does not have screws holding the batteries in place. I surfed the web for instructions, but found nothing. I emailed Timex and they said they do not provide instructions - take it to a jeweler or ship it to them to have the battery replaced (for $12 - $15). Hmm, $12 to $15, plus postage and two to four weeks to get the watch back (per Timex's email) or the gas and time to take it to a jeweler, vs. $0.61 for a battery delivered to my home? These watches are now one battery watches, disposables. This change is why I advise do not buy this watch, unless you want to throw it out when the battery runs out.

Bought for the strap covering back of watch. Kept buying them for because it's a good watch.
There are two reasons I like this watch, and I keep buying it (or the Unisex version). The main reason I first got one of these, the strap. Specifically, the way the velcro strap covers the metal back of the watch itself. It is much more comfortable, and did not cause me skin irritation for wearing it over a long time of active work all day, every day. If I have to take off a wrist watch during a good chunk of the day, it kind of defeats the purpose of a WRIST watch. Second, it's a good watch. Easy to use, three alarms, and you always miss the fact it lets you move the numbers BACKWARDS when going to other watches. That should really be a sales bulletpoint, because wow. It's why I bought one for my Father, who also has worked in hot conditions where the more comfortable strap helps. There are plenty of nice digital watches out there, but I have had difficulty finding any other watches where the strap comfortably covers the metal backing outside of some fancy and expensive leather strap analog ones which I do not get for obvious reasons. I do agree that the strap it comes with, the plastic tab is a bit iffy. So I tend to splurge and get a replacement expedition strap that has the softer tab. The watches themselves tend to last me years and I admit just going and buying a new one is more of a matter of "Oh god, replacing watch batteries is always so awkward." Especially if you do not own a microscopic screwdriver. That and the indiglow starting to die after years. My most recent watch still functions after *checks purchase history* October 2012, but the numbers fade out of view when I push the Indglow button. So that's two years before the indiglow dies, and even longer if you don't mind the lack of reading it in the dark.

Great watch for working with your hands
Husband loves this and it has held up well this past few months. He is a mechanic and wears it everyday! Quality is great and the color is accurate.
