To make a cross over cable you attach one of of these adapters to a regular straight through Ethernet cable **Q: i have a cat 5 ethernet cable going directly from my netgear router to my xbox 1 i want to play computer games through my xbox 1 do i need crossover** A: No router to computer (Xbox) needs a straight cable. A crossover is used for like devices (computer to computer/ switch to switch or hub). Hope this helps **Q: Does this work with cat7, I don't see why it wouldn't? I am just wanting to make sure before I buy.** A: Yes it works. The only difference between cat6 and cat7 is the frequency the data is transferred at! :) **Q: do i need software to make the transfer possible?** A: The answer above will allow you to transfer files. NOT programs. For that, you need PCmover by Laplink. They have versions that come with a cable, but one of these adapters, and an ethernet patch cord will do the trick. The software is available on Amazon, and the version without the cable is available for direct download from Amazon Hope this helps ## Frequently Bought Together - Cable Matters 2-Pack Crossover Adapter (Crossover Cable Adapter) - Belkin 6-Foot CAT5e Crossover Networking Cable (Red) - C2G 27861 Cat6 Crossover Cable - Snagless Unshielded Network Crossover Ethernet Cable, Red (3 Feet, 0.91 Meters) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.nz/products/34627708-cable-matters-2-pack-crossover-adapter-crossover-cable-adapter-red](https://www.desertcart.nz/products/34627708-cable-matters-2-pack-crossover-adapter-crossover-cable-adapter-red) --- *Product available on Desertcart New Zealand* *Store origin: NZ* *Last updated: 2026-10-27*
