Q: Do I melt butter and pour it in? How do the side stick together?

We recommend packing each side with softened butter, then squeezing the two halves together. The wooden pegs will make sure the mold is lined up correctly. After that you can scrape off any excess butter that comes out, and place the mold in the freezer. Once the butter is hard, it can be easily removed from the mold.

Q: every time i tried, the butter sticks to the mold and breaks up. Any tricks to using it? I tried oiling it, but it did not help.

Try using spray oil before you fill. Then freeze them. When ready dip in room temperature water. If that doesn't work,I have also put greased saran wrap inside of the mold. This works better with the less detailed molds.

wooden chick mold

I am very happy with this butter mold. I am actually looking for a larger mold but settled for this. It came faster than expected but it works very well. I will be making butter chicks and lambs for all my friends next Easter. If anyone knows where I can get a larger mold, please e-mail me.

Wooden butter mold

I had to experiment for days to find just how soft the butter needed to be when applied to the mold. If it was too soft it came out in chunks., too hard and the design didn't show up on the butter. The instructions simply said "softened butter". Finally got it right. Results okay, not up to expectations.
