Good cheap stair guage
Cheap and does exactly what it says it will do. The knobs are very secure once tightened. Would recommend for anyone doing their own stairs. Getting the extra piece of wood was easy and makes this product a lot more affordable as shipping a long piece like that would be very expensive.

Good inexpensive option and stayed in place one tight.
I redid my stairs with these and installed vinyl plank flooring. You have to buy the board as it states. Good inexpensive option and stayed in place one tight. I also drew a arrow point up on this in the middle of the board to keep track of my left and right side.

Simple, effective, and inexpensive
I'm a DIY'er. If you are a tradesman, it'll prob frustrate you as an everyday tool1) steel, not aluminum so scoring with a utility knife to mark the line won't damage the tool2) I like the idea of cutting your own spanner piece and don't have to fiddle with parts to get the right length. What I don't like1) people complain that the edges aren't perfectly straight. Just lap dress them. Use carpet tape to put heavy sand paper on a level and grind until flat. Its steel so you have to be agressive. 'm anal and checked it with a machinist bar and eye balled it (no feeler guage). (the downside of being steel)2) there is no swivel on the ends. The angle is set by just the slop in the spanner bar. Fine for me, but if your stairs aren't close to 90, you may have to cut a custom spanner to handle odd angles like a stairway that hooks.

Amazing Affordable Tool!!
Let me start by saying this was my first time working on stairs. I never knew that every step would have differing angles, widths and depths. I would not have been able to complete the job without this tool. I upgraded my stairs with the Cap-A-Tread stair retread renewal system with a cost of about $45 per tread and $15 per riser. I could not afford any mistakes on the 15 stairs but I did manage to mess up the first step.Let me get back to this tool package. Know that you need to get 1x1 and cut it to length you need for your stairs. The pencil came in handy and I didn't use the level (but will in the future). One person can use this tool but it is hard to get both sides even and tightened down by yourself. **** I highly recommend that your mark left (L) and right (R) on this tool so the measurements are transferred correctly ****You can spend oodles of money on other tools but why would you?! This is affordable and does outstanding work!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOOL!!!

You must have one tool with everything you need!
Must Have Tool with Everything You Need! This staircision stair tread template tool is amazing! It’s a must have complete kit with a carpenter pencil for all your cuts to be precise. It made my project a breeze, I just got a 1x2 piece of wood about 2 inches less than my stair and along with the bubble level that’s included, I was able to make sure each and every stair tread and riser is perfect. The stair tread template tool even has ruler markings on each end for measuring which came in handy since each and every step was surprisingly a different shape and size. Who would’ve thought! Also quick tip, don’t forget to mark with the pencil the right and left of the tool so you know which side is which. Saved me a lot of time once I started doing this. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase!

Very helpful story stick - but built cheaply
I used this to install 34 step treads and risers in my remodel, the knobs broke half way through the project and I had to rig it up with new bolts and knobs. If you’re VERY careful tightening the knobs it may last longer.

Worth the cost even if only used once
As some may know I’m in the trades and a big fan of buying quality tools from proven manufacturers. However….. there are occasions when you are using for a single project it might not be necessary to spend 3-4 times the amount of another tool. This was the case for me. I don’t plan on doing a bunch of staircases so I have this a try. It works as it should. You need to take your time, tighten securely and it will work great. It’s also worth noting you need to take time to butt both ends securely to the riser for the most accurate measurements.

Just what I needed to make the job easier.
Used this for treads and risers. You do need one piece of 1x2 two inches short of the pieces you are cutting though - it is not included with this kit. Works perfectly. Made it much easier to do a quality job on my stairs.
