LaCie doesn't make the ones shaped like keys anymore, which use to be my go to (I know you can still find that style, but none of them worked as well as the LaCie ones) with that - I went in search for a cool, distinct, won't mistake it for anything else USB drive. something that fits my style (didn't want one shaped like a pig, ninja etc.) What I wanted was something sleek, minimal, but different looking and sturdy, didn't want to even chance the possibility of falling off a keyring. I found this one. I was smitten with the design, so much so I didn't care what the speed may be, didn't even factor. I saw the stated storage amount, and the speed both good enough for the purposes of what this usb drive would hold. I bought it, fully expecting this to be nothing more then a really cool sleek usb that didn't live up to it's product description. So color me surprised when it arrived and I tested it out. The USB flips out easily, there is a small black flipper tab, that I could easily grip with my thumb, even if my nail was clipped down far. It opens with a little resistance, but with ease. I like the slight resistance, as that assures me the usb won't just randomly start falling out, and not stay put. It flips open and has a slight push feel when fully straight to let you know it's gonna stay put while plugged into a port. It fits into a port snuggly, where you actually need to push a little and then don't worry a little bump might dislodged it enough to eject it accidentally. The casing is light weight so it doesn't weigh or pull it down when plugged in. The width is 3/4", length is 2-3/8", depth is just a hair under 3/8". The (for me) black bit sticks slightly further out from the chrome looking part, so full depth is slightly thicker then some other usb drives, I don't mind this as it feels nice in hand. The clasp to attach to a keyring, or other object, is tight and springy, I don't worry that it will just give out one day. sometimes I mess with it like I do with those click pens. it's got the same feel when opening and closing it. From what I can tell, the chromed area is actual metal, not sure what type though I do know it doesn't stick to magnets (the actual usb area does, just for info). So far it has stayed shiny and The chrome area hasn't even gotten a scratch. I can polish it up to really make it sparkle/shine. I like that the chromed bit really helps me notice this USB drive. No more miss placing it and loosing it on my all black desk. Even when thrown in with all my other usbs, this one sticks out. There really is very little searching for it. The storage is accurate also. it shows as 58.5gb, which is on par for what I expected, since no USB I have owned has ever shown the exact capacity of what is stated. (my 16gb shows as 14.5, my 128gb shows as 116 and so on) For being labeled as a 2.0 the speed of transfer is good (I only have 3.0 ports blue and red, no 2.0 ports (black) and I had this plugged into the 3.0 blue type on the front of my case. I'm not familiar with speed data, I care more if it works in general. But as a test I transferred 827 MB from my pc's SSD, to this usb and it took about 2 minutes. I took a video, but accidentally stopped it early, the first half I filmed for 51 secs, the second half is 50 seconds (uploaded this part), with approx a 2 sec window from stopping and restarting. I couldn't be happier with this usb, I had really low expectations when I first ordered it, thought it might be one of those dud usbs that is just a case and completely missing storage. with that, I have 2 complaints, not deal breakers, more annoyances that I can deal with. The black casing part is plastic, and slightly flimsy. I worry this part if dropped on hard ground might break and pop off, I did notice it will be able to be glued back on though, as this casing part does wrap around metal where the usb is housed. Other complain is length of the usb, I uploaded a photo, but it's long, so sometimes it feels like it could be pushed in more, I'd much prefer the usb bit go in all the way with the housing flush to the port its plugged into. Again not deal breakers, more annoyances. The overall quality of this product truly outweighs those minor complaints. I saw they have some more colors. And I will be getting those, especially the blue one.
