The timer programming takes a few minutes to figure out but once you have its easy to use and repeatably accurate. The connections allow easy access for the wires and the screw down compression clamps hold even stranded wire in place pretty well. Overall it is a nice neat package with a nice display. The only addition I would like to see is a momentary backlight on the display so you can see it better when the ambient light is low. Other than that it's a great timer and its DIN mountable to it can be colocated with other modules. Update: I noticed a few reviewers had trouble configuring for 12Vdc operation. Be sure to order the correct version and for wiring I have uploaded a diagram - Also note, although there is a 12Vdc load shown in the example an AC load may be used but be sure to remove all DC connections going to the relay and load. Tip: Test the set up by using the timer's on/off control before programming it for smart operation. Warning: AC can be lethal so, if you are not sure about what you are doing get someone to help you. The flexible timer programming will cover every imaginable scenario. There are 28 ON/OFF schedules with different day of the week activation (e.g. everyday, weekend, every other day, odd/even day, etc) already included. I've gradually replacing all my Dayton mechanical timers with this: it's around $10 versus $50 and the mechanical Intermatic timer has plastic gears that fails on 3 yrs average with very rigid and dumb mechanical programming. Last, this switch is for 110/125V AC power source driving AC load (should theoretically work for DC load via separate common DC ground but did not test). Please let me know how to do wiring for this device. Output wiring is mor** A: I was baffled by the wiring diagram that came with the switch for quite some time, but I figured it out in the end. My confusion was that I thought the power coming into terminals 1 and 2 transfer down and out 4/5 or 4/3. That was wrong The power going to 1 and 2 is only to power the switch actuator. You need to a completely separate power source for the 4/5 (NO) or 4/3 (NC) connection. The power can be 24V or all the way up to 110V (240V?) My switch was located near my circuit breaker, so I routed a new cable to power the switch and connected it to terminals 1 and 2 I cut the hot (black) wire in the cable that used to run from the circuit breaker straight to my pump and instead connected hot wire coming from the circuit breaker to terminal 4. I wanted the "Normally Open" behavior, so I connected the rest of the hot wire (that was going to the pump) to terminal 5. The neutral and common wires that previously went to the pump stayed as-is. **Q: Can this timer be used as a bell controller? Can the β€œOn” cycle be set down to like 5 seconds?** A: I believe the smallest increments is minutes. **Q: Timer is unresponsive to any button press and appears to have a lock symbol? I **LOVE** that someone made this switch and at an excellent value. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great timer for the cost = good value *by T***N on November 18, 2020* Everyone's application will be different and depending on the application, this little timer may receive good reviews while others will receive poor reviews. My application involves security and it seems to be doing a pretty good job so far. I have a small office with a double-locked door lobby and instead of implementing a door controller with RFID and such, I decided to go with a timer and door strike. I have several door controllers and unless you pay big money for a big brand and big money for installation, you will end up with a door controller system, costing around $250 with Chinese tech support, pay-to-play modules, and account maintenance (otherwise the monitoring app expires). I have all these and I got tired of my employees being locked out every few months. Anyway, is this product good for security? Well, no, and it won't work for everyone. My lobby has a locked front door and locked entry door, so for my application, unlocking the front door between, say, 8am to 5pm, works just fine. My employees still need a separate key to unlock the inner entry door. I use this just to let early deliveries to drop off packages. With that being said, I connected everything up the way I planned: the timer and power supply are always powered up, with the NC door strike connected to the "NO" contact on the timer, 12VDC to the timers output center, and the door strike returns to GND on the power supply. Simple as pie. Now the quality of the timer itself seems to be pretty good. We all know these are all Chinese-made products, but for a Chinese-made product, this one seems on the upscale. I don't like how the window opens, as there are no thumb-grooves or serrations for any grip. The "nub" makes it a bit hard to open, but I suppose once you set it, just forget it. The timer follows some loose DIN standards and it is quite compact, which is nice. However, sitting next to my Meanwell power supply, the control panel is sunk awkwardly deep, but there are really only 2 components in this system, I can space them out on an 8" DIN rail. The reaction time of the relay seems slow. My application, this if fine since I don't think anyone will need to open the door at exactly 8:00.000000am. But keep in mind, the reaction time is slow, possibly 1-2 seconds. I assume most people will use these as automatic light switch or something similar, since it has provisions for MTWThFSSn, which means the timer will be triggered at least once per day. There are about 15 programs or something. I scrolled through and stopped at 15, so potentially 15 times, 7 days a week. Keep in mind relays are susceptible to arcing, and will get damaged with use so this may not be a good choice for a frequently triggered timer. The way I see it, if the relay lasts 10,000 switches, and I trigger once a day, it will last 27 years. I can live with that. On another note, I also use the cheap DIN PID controllers and I mistakenly purchased one with relays. The relay did not last 15 minutes. I suspect this will be no different, so this timer is good as a "once a day" timer. It seems to have an internal battery, which is a plus for when power goes out. I'm not sure at this moment if the battery is user-serviceable or not. Without opening the product, this may affect the longevity of the product. The Manual button, at least on the one I received is not reliable. I may have to press it 2-3 times for it to register, but all it is doing is cycling through ON-Auto-OFF, anyway, so it's not too critical. I doubt I will touch it much once everything is installed. It is pretty easy to program, very straight forward. However, once you start overthinking your application, like I did, I wish it had provisions for daylight savings or digital output to connect to an Arduino or similar. I may connect the output to a relay/SSR board and send signals through Wifi or Bluetooth. Who knows, but if your application is simple, this is good value for $14. One last thing, the AC power and Relay Output are awkwardly up-side down. Normally, I see main power at the bottom and output at the top. In this case, the AC power on the timer is at the top and output is at the bottom, where on the power supply, power is on the bottom and output is on the top.
