So my downstairs neighbor (Slammy McGee) kept slamming the heavy foyer door late at night, and it would shake my whole apartment every time he did (literally sounded like a bomb was going off). I tried talking to him a few times about it, but it just wasn't sinking in. I looked up the best way to prevent someone from slamming a door, and an automatic door closer was the top recommendation online. This took about 20 minutes to install, and after I set it up, I tried six ways from Sunday to slam the door, and it literally makes it impossible to slam the door (closes whisper quiet even when trying to slam the door). It has adjustments for the speed at which it closes the first 90% of the door, and another adjustment for the last 10% of the door closing. It can be mounted on either side of a door, and comes with hardware to mount it to either the side or the underside of the door frame.
