This actually worked for my daughter in no time. I used in conjunction with a nail polish. Highly recommend

NOTE: If you are looking at buying these for your child because YOU are ready for your child to quit sucking their thumb, then DO NOT waste your money. These will not work for a child who isn't ready to quit. But.... If your child is like mine -- a smart 5 year old boy -- who was ready to quit because: - he is the only child left in his class who still sucked his thumb; - he is headed off to kindergarten in the Fall (big boy school); - and he is keenly aware of his thumbsucking, knows it is dirty/germy, and HE WANTS TO STOP... Then Thumbusters will ABSOLUTELY WORK for your child!!! My boy was all these things. None of his buddies sucked their thumbs anymore. Most never sucked their thumbs at all. But my Son was sucking his thumb in the womb! So stopping was never going to be easy for him. And his Mother and I never pushed him to quit because it is compltely counterproductive. But when my Son turned 5, he became aware and embarrassed of his thumbsucking to the point he would cover up his thumb hand with his other hand to "hide" his act. But he was the one who actually asked us to help him quit. So we talked with him about all the options and devices that can help him quit...nasty nail polish, hot gloves, even hotter mittens, plastic devices, etc. He decided he just needed a reminder to not suck his thumb, so he wanted a "reminder" in the form of a glove. He was certain he could quit himself. So I showed him two different anti-thumbsucking gloves online and he chose the Thumbuster because they looked like superhero gloves, with bright colors, and still allowed his hands to be free and open. When they came in the mail, he could not wait to put them on. He wore them so much, I had to get a second pair because they got dirty often. But he was steadfast in wearing them everyday, all the time, especially in the evenings and at night (when he was tired and most vulnerable to slipping that thumb back in his mouth). With the reminder the Thumbusters provided, today marks his 30th day that he has gone without sucking his thumbs. He did it all himself. He just needed a reminder. And the Thumbusters provided that. OBTW: My Son actually sucks(ed) either/both thumbs. So I had to purchase two (2) Thumbusters to cover both of his thumbs. But they DO NOT come in pairs...only one. As some reviewers have posted, yes they are a bit expensive. And yes, they are not very durable, they are prone to snagging easily on their own Velcro hooks, and they will look beat up after only a week or so. But they are soft, safe, and will fit most thumbs because the material is very stretchy. For us, they were perfect... And for us, the cost of four (4) Thumbusters at $14 each, was still a lot less expensive than just one of those $90 plastic cover contraptions that makes your child to stop sucking their thumb by force. Seems overboard to me, but to each their own. When your child is ready to quit, your child will quit. Parents...calm down and take a breath. This too, shall pass...THANKS THUMBUSTERS!!!

Not a bad idea but my 4 yr old son immediately unvelcro'd the thing, took it off, and laughed

Bad product! I bought two of them this week, which came within two days on amazon, and they are already falling apart one day later! This is a thin, poor quality, completely non-durable piece material (almost silk-like in feeling) stitched together at the seams. There is no chance that my five year old can go to school with these and they will last more than one week. And they are $14 a piece!! Are you kidding? When i saw it in the photo on amazon i thought it was something that would be decent-sized and easily cleaned. Both of the ones i bought are already shredding in one day. Within a week i will be returning these to Amazon if they continue in the same fashion. Build a better device, I say to whoever the lazy person is that created this piece of garbage!
