Victron Energy VE.Direct Smart Dongle (Bluetooth) - Wireless Monitoring for BMV & MPPT - Compatible with iOS & Android via VictronConnect App

This bluetooth dongle is required in order to set up some of Victron Energy's lower priced devices, including the BlueSolar MPPT Solar Charge Controller. The dongle is plugged in, then using the Victron app on, for instance, an iPhone, a bluetooth connection is made to the device and current state information is then displayed and configuration parameters can be accessed. Without the dongle, only a few configuration options are available; it is a necessity if the default settings are not what is needed. The dongle can be removed after configuration is complete, and connected to another device as necessary. This has the benefit of securing the settings as made and preventing inadvertent or malicious changes made by others. The price of the dongle is reasonable, and the total cost of it and the controller combined is competitive. I'm happy with Victron products, including this one.

This works great with my BlueSolar non-Bluetooth Victron hardware. I moved it from unit to unit connecting quickly to adjust setting and monitor performance then left it plugged into my MPPT to monitor panel output.

Splendid. That feeling when you plug a piece of equipment in, the app instantly picks it up, the instructions make perfect sense, it all works as stated, and in 10 seconds you have a fully working device that you can count on. My charge controller (Victron) was not a bluetooth equipped one, so I needed this. That's my fault for not reading carefully. But plug this in and poof, you're set. The Victron Connect app picks it up instantly and you get full functionality in seconds. Bravo Victron.

this dongle paired with the Victron app works great. I didn't purchase a solar controller with BT built in and using this dongle fixes that mistake. It is amazing how fast it connects with the solar charge controller and has fairly good range, I'd say 25=30 feet. Anything from Victron just plain works first time and every time

Plugged in and after installing the phone app. Was very simple to pair, update firmware for both it and my Victron controller.

Why only 4 stars you ask? I’m annoyed that I even need this in the first place. It works great, decent range, and connects easily and quickly. I wish it output more information from my 12/500 phoenix, but overall I’m happy and annoyed.

Some Victron controllers say this is optional, but there’s really no other way to know exactly what your controller is doing. Works well, a necessity in my opinion.
