This review is for the 2Kw version: TRDX40820E. Very nice heater and while the timer function is a bit fiddly, it is ok. (There are some good YouTube videos on how to use it). I have had a Delonghi Rapido oil filled radiator for probably nearly 14 years and it is still working fine. That has heating power up to 3 Kw with its instant heat function (500 watt convector instant heat, 1000 watt oil radiator and 1500 watt oil radiator and any combination of the 3 settings), so I know these heaters are (or were) very high quality. I never used the full 3 Kw power though as I have never needed to and it is very near the limit for UK circuits. I wanted a new one mainly for the safety features and hoping it would be more economical with the Eco function. The amazon advert is misleading for the TRDX40820E as it says this can be used for rooms up to 75 cubic metres, but it says that for the 2.5Kw version as well. Delving further, it says on the Delonghi site that this can be used for rooms up to 60 cubic metres. My room is 48.4 cubic Metres (6.11 x 3.43 x 2.31), so it should have been ok. I think if I had been buying again, I would by the 2.5Kw version, just for that extra headroom. Trying to keep my living room at 20 deg c, I need to set the temperature to 25 deg C, but it warms up quickly. (Outside temperature 3 deg C, room start temperature at 14 deg C). It takes about 1.5 hours to stabilise in my room which isn’t particularly well insulated and has large NE facing windows. I am not sure of the Eco function yet as can’t really see the difference in its operation: If you set it at a particular temperature, then surely that is what you want to keep it at? When set to Eco, the temperature drops a couple of degrees, but I am experimenting further. The power levels are interesting though: Level 1 is approx. 920 watts, Level 2 is 1100 watts and level 3 is 2000 watts, (depending on voltage fluctuations of course) so not linear and strange values I would have thought as the difference between level 1 and 2 is only 200 watts. This unit is quite small, very well constructed and looks nice in the room. I would say it is just about enough power for my approx. 48 cubic metre room, so if your room is bigger, I would definitely get the higher power version. One thing I was surprised about is that this version was made in China, my other one was made in Italy and I just assumed this one would be as well. That does not mean that it is of lower quality as a lot of products from China these days are very high quality and sometimes only assembled in China, the parts coming from other countries. Only time will tell on its longevity but at the moment I would recommend it. It does appear to be more economical though at the moment, but we haven't had any real long cold weather spells yet, (Jan 2022) and I have only had it a month. Between this and the Veito infra-red heater I have, I can tailor the type of heat for the room. E.g., if I am on my own working and don’t require the whole room to be warm I use the Veito, but for whole room warmth when other people are here, then I use this.

This is a brilliant convection heater and really wants the room up quickly and is much more cost-effective than using central heating. I find this one provides a much nicer/less drying heat, probably because it is away from the wall so it heats the room up quicker and requires less time to get a comfortable heat than the radiators. Lots of people seem to be complaining about the high pitch noise/alarm sound that you get when you press the power button. But that is configurable- you can switch off easily- When the unit is on but in standby mode, press and hold the knob for about five seconds, the screen will show some dashes, press the clock button and then turn the knob to turn the sound off (red circle with sdoff text). There is a short video on YouTube which explains all the features very well if you just search for DeLonghi Dragon 4, it comes up as the first result in the UK. The only slight negative point I would make It is that it would be better if the cable was on the other end ( not the display end). You're obviously going to have the display end facing towards you/closer to you, so that means that 50 cm or so of the cable is wasted and it gets in the way more if you move it. I might end up taping the cable up underneath and extending although this will depend on how I get on with it for a while. This probably only impacts you if you plan on moving the heater around the room much which I suppose most people won't.
