Ben-Hur (3-Disc Ultimate Collectors Edition) [Blu-ray]

The only thing wrong with this picture is its 3.5 hour length, but even with this, you don't realize you are watching it for this long. It is clear right from the get-go director William Wyler set out to direct an epic and he succeeded. Only bad part about it, and it really isn't bad, is the Bible doesn't say how many wise men there were. We assume there were three from the three gifts Jesus was given. That being said, this picture won 11 academy awards, including Best Picture, Actor, music, supporting actor, etc. It was awesome in 1959 when i first saw it, and it is still awesome today. This dvd is super good and a perfect rendition of the original theatrical presentation, complete with overture and intermission music. I miss overtures and intermission music, they really added a lot to the presentation. I remember listening to the so-called soundtrack album which was issued at the time and thought there was a lot of music not there. Now, with CD's available, the complete score is also available for a totally satisfying experience. I hope this movie stays around for 50 more years.

It's been decades since I last saw this movie, and I am truly impressed with Charlton Heston's artistic and personal stature--there is no one like him. This movie is epic and among the best ever produced. Kudos to director, William Wyler and to Karl Tunberg who wrote the screenplay and all the talented people who worked on this project to produce this beautiful movie. This Ben Hur movie is just perfect, and well deserving of the 11 Academy Awards it earned. I bought the Blue-ray version of the movie, and picture quality is crisp, the colors strong and the audio is excellent. At the beginning, before the movie begins, it states that the movie is "manufactured to the highest quality standards", and it lives up to its claims. Also, getting 3 discs, two of the movie and one of bonus content is great!

Includes the 1925 version of Ben-Hur on disk 3! That certainly was a pleasant surprise. I won't review the 1959 movie, as it of course is awesome and the Blu-Ray is great and I can't really add much to that. But I note with hilarity that on the extras disk, there are some interviews about the movie by some famous directors. They mention in awe all the new camera angles invented for the chariot race, and are amazed where they got inspiration for the statues on the ends of the ridge in the circus. However, if you look at the included 1925 version, the camera angles are all there, and the same statues! The 1959 race is almost a shot-for-shot reshoot of the 1925 one.

Perfect! Ordered and the blu ray arrived on time and in perfect condition. I need not say anything about the movie itself......nothing to add to a phenomenal movie. Three discs were present and the last disc contained the silent version as well. The quality of the picture in the 1950's version is truly incredible. Enjoy it!

The vivid color and meticulous attention to detail make this come alive. After a short while you are drawn into the story line. Please note the enormous numbers of extras. The acting by the principles is also superb. Small wonder it took eleven academy awards. Buy this. It is a true classic.

I first saw this movie in London when I was a boy. It has not lost any of it's wonder or grandeur. The story of Judah Ben-Hur is timeless. And set against the backdrop of the Passion of Christ; it carries that much more significant as the story of Christ will remain timeless through the ages. Also: slavery appears to remain a very contemporary curse upon the human condition. So this movie will remain likewise currently contemporary as the years pass on.

Da muss man nicht viel schreiben. Der Film ist ein Klassiker. Ein Jude, Ben Hur, der immer ein treuer römischer Staatsbürger, wird durch einen blöden Zwischenfall zum Staatsfeind. Er kämpft um zu überleben. Der Film endet mit dem spektakulärsten Wagenrennen der Geschichte. Ein Sandalenfilm der Extraklasseße.

Magnífica remasterización que se ha conseguido en formato blu ray. Me decidí por compra el blu ray de la edición inglesa básicamente por los extras ya que, ni la edición española (aunque tenga formato digibook), ni la edición francesa (formato metálico) ni ninguna otra edición creo que tienen los extras de la edición inglesa. Esta edición contiene tres blu rays, dos para la película en si y un tercero únicamente para extras. Estos son, Ben Hur de 1925, un documental sobre el rodaje de Ben Hur de más de una hora en la que salen hijos de Heston, la mujer y más personas que estuvieron relacionadas con la película y un otro documental de una hora de duración con el director de la película. También incluye un video sobre la ceremonia de los Oscars, y más extras. Esta edición me ha encantado por todos los extras que contiene y por calidad de imagen que es espectacular. La única pega es que el diseño de la carátula no es no tan llamativo como la edición española con libreto y o el estuche metálico de la edición francesa. Pero puestos a elegir compensa más esta edición por todos los extras que contienen, que son una joya.

I don't need to review the film: everyone has seen it on TV every year for fifty years. What is absolutely jaw dropping is the restoration. I can see now why the movie is split over two Blu Ray disks maintaining the bit rate. The level of detail is just incredible, better than you could imagine was captured on a sixty six year old film and the colours just pop without being unnatural. The digital sound is also sumptuous and the perfect balance of music and dialogue. It takes an already epic classic and elevates it to levels I did not think possible. One of the greatest relmasters of an old film I have ever witnessed. Disk 3 is full of extras for nerdy collectors like myself. Brilliant
