Once the water has gone, the sensor in the valve will automatically draw more from a nearby reservoir. The kit includes tubing to link to the reservoir, which can be any kind of soft plastic container, such as a 5-litre milk bottle or a large camping water bottle. The valve can also be linked to larger reservoirs, such as water butts, but a separate linking kit will need to be purchased.The valve can be adjusted to ensure the water level in the tray in kept between 7-20mm, depending on your plants needs and how long you need to keep them watered for. With a large enough reservoir, it is possible to keep a tray of plants watered for at least two weeks, even in warm temperatures. Please be aware that it is impossible to give an exact length of time, however, and it is worth monitoring water consumption for at least week before you go away.The Smart Valve is also invaluable in the greenhouse, and for regular watering throughout the growing season. I was sent another to replace the first faulty one. So I had three, none worked. I was asked to send them to the supplier And i would get a refund for the two that I bought. I did that, not a word since, I went via ebay ( I was told the seller would send a refund). Not a word still from the seller.. NOw Ebay had asked me to send them back after this, but I already had, now Ebay say I need to send them back !! NOW I cant get to Ebay to tell them..UPDATE.. Worked for two days then decided to open the valve and flood the tray. Since then there has been no stopping the water flow. Customer services just didn’t want to know and I have given up pursuing it as I can’t be arsed to waste precious life trying to get either this thing working or someone to do something about it. Don’t wast your money is my recommendation! ### ⭐⭐ Not durable enough for me *by M***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on May 31, 2015* Bought two of these in total and after two seasons worth of use both have stopped working. The first didn't stop the flow of water and the second wouldn't let any flow out. The patented aspect of this valve is a polymer that I assume swells up when it gets wet stopping flow and I suspect that this part is not durable; unlike the rest of the valve that is very robust. If spare parts were available this would be a five star product but I can't find any.
