MIINA Japanese Traditional Tatami Mat, Igusa (Rush Grass) Floor Mattress, Futon, 55"x78" (Full, Natural)

Do NOT buy this. It molded—just discovered today, 10 months since purchase—and it looks like product support has “closed.” I even used a waterproof mattress cover, so I suspect the mat had been exposed to moisture before it got to me.

The mat is fairly decent quality and works well underneath a futon. The grass smell is very strong, and did bother me slightly for a day or two, but I expected that from tatami and don't fault the product for it. However, my mat arrived with dozens of small broken fibers and holes in it, and I can't return it due to size and weight. I'm not entirely happy with my purchase, but if you're fortunate to get a new condition mat, or you can transport it back and forth for returns until you receive a product you're happy with, I would likely recommend it. Update: The seller reached out to me to help reach a favourable conclusion, which was much appreciated. I adjusted my rating from 3 to 4 stars because of the good customer service, and would still recommend the product assuming your luck was better than mine (maybe my damaged mat was the outlier.)

I like the quality and structure but the smell is SUPER overwhelming. I should have listened to the other reviews! if you like this smell then i would recommend, otherwise nope.

This is the perfect tatami mat if you've owned an authentic one before. This has the smell and feel that reminds me of rural Japan. If you are buying one and have never owned one before beware of the smell. It smells like fresh cut grass and is nearly impossible to get out. Otherwise it is perfect.

Foldable, light and easy to use. The only thing that bothered me was the smell of it when it first arrived. I know it’s considered calming in japanese culture but I had to air it out a bit before using it!
