Though the back pack straps and configuration(s) is a little clumsy, especially for short-wasted individuals, it does serve the purpose to free up your hands ok. My daughter used this for the Nationals in Nebraska and really found this useful. The cooler worked well but if you really load it up and use the backpack, it became awkward with the weight of the bars riding on your mid-hamstrings (as noted for short-wasted). If you can keep it on your lower back, in some fashion, it works very well. The carrying strap made quick moves easy.
