Well, I am not a wood guy. If it was oak or cherry I would be able to tell. I guess balsa and pine wood also. I imagine if it was any special type of wood they would state it. The outer sides have a dark stain that looks very nice. The inner sides show the wood grain. It's kind of greyish. Bottom line is I find it a very functional tool regardless of the type of wood.
