This stuff works!
I wanted to get away from the red container with blue stick "fresh" stuff (sounds like Bold Spice) I've been using since high school. It's filled with chemicals that are questionable, such as vague components like "fragrance" and dyes added to it to make it blue. How safe has it been to use daily for 20 years? Thus, my search for a natural deodorant that actually works was under way. I feel pretty luck in that this was the first natural deodorant that I tried and it just...worked. I've read and heard horror stories about people switching from traditional deodorants/antiperspirants to natural deodorant (skin sensitivities, bad B.O., or at least a long adjustment period in which the body eliminates all of the aluminum from the pores in the skin), but I experienced none of this. I think those switching from deodorants (these simply cover up the smell and reduce the likelihood of bacteria causing B.O) better tolerate natural deodorants than those switching from antiperspirants (again, Aluminum detox and other things going on here). I chose the cedar scent because it is formulated with cedarwood essential oil rather than some vague thing like "fragrance." Carefully look at the ingredients list on Sam's Natural products, as some have "fragrance" added (if you're trying to avoid). The scent is subtle, which I like, and the application is dead simple: hold it against your pit for a few seconds to warm it up, swipe up and down a couple of times (as in, don't need to use very much), and repeat on the other pit. This product has kept me smelling neutral/slightly cedar-y every day this week during and after my morning run and again throughout the day at work after showering and reapplying after said running. It also seems to keep the sweat at bay a little bit due to the arrowroot powder in it, which is nice. As long as I continue to enjoy smell-free, rash-free days, Sam's gets my money. I'm excited to try the Vetiver and Aloe scents next (scented with vetiver essential oil and petitgrain essential oil, respectively. Seems as though I like the woodsy/grassy/herbal ones). I also like that this is a relatively small company based in New Hampshire (gotta support the local New England entrepreneurs). TL;DR: Works for this sweaty runner who switched from "Bold Spice" and will continue to purchase this as long as they make it.

Best natural deodorant available and love the scent variety!
This deodorant is the best natural deodorant i’ve ever bought. Over the past year and a half, i have tried every scent they make, except for Sport. The first few time’s i ordered through Amazon, i received the product with broken tops, and have never received a single response from the company. However, i like the product so much, that i ordered many more, and most of them have been fine. The “cigar” scent, smells like a fresh cigar (unlit). The Aloe is fresh cut.. clean smelling, perfect for summer. One of my favorite’s is the, only occasionally available, coconut. It smells exactly like the Hawaiian sun tan lotion from when i was a kid. Love it! The “Bay” scent.. smells like you just went to the barber shop for a hair cut. Leather.. scent.. smells NOT like a watch band, but instead.. like leather from the leather shop (however the smell changes within a few hours to one i didn’t like). The same with Vetiver .. at first.. it smells like your sitting around a campfire and brings back awesome memories.. however.. within an hour or two.. it begins to smell like an electrical fire (really strange and gross). The oak moss has a nice “woodsy” smell to it and is nice for daily wear. However.. bar none.. my favorite.. is Cederwood. It smells like fresh cut cedar when you put it on.. and throughout the day. Never had to “reapply” the cederwood either. Chestnut is also pretty good.. smells like the interior of an old hotrod.. if you’ve ever owned a classic car.. you’ll know what I mean. Original scent smells like the original “right gaurd”… As for “sage lime”.. it smells clean and summery at first, but is not that good within a few hours. Basically.. as far as natural deoderant’s are concerned. This company’s products actually smell like the name implies (unlike other companies attempts). They have a large selection for men, woman, other(s). They last all day without needing to be reapplied.. My only advice is to take the companies advice… apply with one swipe up, and one swipe down the other side.. another words “less is more”.. if you over apply.. it will burn .. leave stains.. or cause trouble. Adding more.. will NOT make it work better, or last longer. On average. A container last me a few months because of how thin you apply it. If your switching from an anti-persperant to this product, it will take a few days for your body to adjust. You can also do this… if you take a shower at night… you can use an anti-perperant (especially an unscented one.. if done this on the hottest days of the summer), and the next morning.. after showering, apply Sams (the scent you love the most). This will make you sweat less during the worst summer days, while still using the scent you love the most. I’ve only needed to do this a few times in a year. I used another product, which is a pad containing simply the anti-persperant (called sweat block; which last up to seven days and is unscented), and then used Sam’s as normal; during 100 degree days. Even on day’s that are in the eighties and nineties.. Sam’s works fine on it’s own. As for staining… i’ve only had one Sam’s product cause stains.. and that was the Coconut one. Because it has coconut oil i assume.. this one caused problems. However, for the most part, Sam’s washes out of clothing very well. Summary: I have tried numerous “natural” deodorants.. and Sam’s in bar none.. the best. It smells like the name implies.. last longer than other “natural” deodorant’s.. doesn’t stain clothing (except for the one i mentioned). And, even though it is expensive.. you put it on so thinly.. that it lasts as long as any other deodorant you might buy.

Great deodorant!
*EDIT* (2/22/18) After use for about a month I need to amend my review of this product. While I still am using it and like how it works, I have had mild irritation that will not go away. I don't know if it is an ingredient or what the cause is. Both underarms right in where the arm meets the torso has a small rash in that area. It isn't really all that noticable unless I look at it but still there. I do have sensitive skin so that might be the cause, but the odd thing is that it is not everywhere I use the deodorant. I use one swipe top to bottom, but that isn't where the irritation occurs, so I am not totally sure the cause. I still would recommend this product, but felt the need to update the review. I also have taken one star off for this, and will replace if I can figure out the exact cause and that it isn't caused by this product. *EDIT* I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by this deodorant! The scent is awesome and works perfectly with my other products that I use. (beardbalm, cologne, ect.) I have been using aluminium free deodorant for a while so I didn't have to worry about the "adjustment" period which was nice. I will say that if I put more than one swipe on, that I have seen some irritation occur. Other than that this deodorant works really well. I can go a full 24 hrs without starting to smell at all, much better than the 6 hrs from my last deodorant. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a better product that works and offers a nice variety of scents to choose from!

Pretty bad in every regard other than initial nice smell
At the time I am writing this, this has about a 3.8-4 star average review. The only explanation for that I can think of is lots of reviews where the person opens it, it smells great, uses it a day and then writes a review. After using it for one month I can say that this is a pretty bad deodorant all around, but it would trick you on day one or two as it does smell like leather pretty nicely right after you unseal the wrapper. It goes downhill from there: the leather smell goes quickly away and after a week you can barely notice it and after 2 weeks you are just spreading $12 neutral scented paste in your armpits. That brings me to the other big ding on this: the consistency and spreadability is disgusting, it is way too dry and thick, it would absolutely be easier to spread peanut butter than use this glue stick consistency "deodorant". I will forever remember this as the "Matt Foley" deodorant, because it leaves you feeling like you have left "dried up cakes of deodorant under your arms for weeks at a time" if you go one day without showering. If you don't shower or otherwise wash this off every day it stays in your armpit as a caked layer that never disappears for the next day, and would just keep building up, so you will have to go thoroughly wash your armpits every morning/evening if you aren't a daily shower person. The round tube is an 80's design which is fitting because this is basically a crappy 80's chalk/glue deodorant repackaged and sold at a premium. The whole thing is a shame because whoever designed the leather smell actually got that spot on, they just can't get it to stay more than a couple days after opening (and it fades away in a hour or so after application) and they paired the smell with a company who can't make a decent deodorant to save their life. If you are the guy who designed the smell reading this please quit your job and go work for a real deodorant company, put this smell you made on a gel or gel stick deodorant so it isn't gross and have someone help you make the smell last longer, then you actually have something going for yourself.

Best Natural Deodorant that I have tried.
I have been using the original Scent for about 4 months now and I love it, I have not tried any of the other scents! I wanted to detail my experience and what has worked for me. I am a very active guy that works out and runs daily both at the gym and outside. Helpful hints: -It works best on trimmed or shaved pits (yes guys no deodorant works great on a jungle, this one works best with direct contact to the skin). -If you are switching from a different Antiperspirant Deodorant it will take about a month for your body to adjust to this deodorant give it a chance (I used Old Spice beforehand for many years in different scents but wanted something natural and without aluminium). -Do NOT use a lot or it can irritate the skin, one or two passes works great as the manufacturer states. I accidentally applied an exuberant amount once and experienced very slight irritation but have not had any irritation since then, everyone is different. My Use cases: This Deodorant will last all day and into the morning without crazy physical activity, I only reapply before either a very long run or high intensity gym workout (I hate the smell of BO). I run anywhere from 3 to 10 miles and the deodorant hasn't failed except once when it was 80 degrees out and I had only applied in the morning and went through the whole day and run 6 miles in the heat. At the gym I usually have high intensity workouts where I'm soaked in sweat by the end. For the Gym I apply before going in the evening to avoid any funk just in case just because of the intensity of my workouts and the amount I sweat.. I would recommend this deodorant! I have tried many other natural deodorants where I would stink half way through the day sitting at my desk. This deodorant lasts all day and smells great and can hold up during workouts and runs (might require a reapply before gym or run if its been all day to be on the safe side).

great scent and packaging but irritated my skin
I've been looking for an ideal "natural" deodorant/anti-perspirant for a few years and mostly rely on crystal sticks and sprays as they're non-irritating, non-staining, but they don't hold up well in sweaty conditions or swamp heat. I bought this on a semi-whim instead of buying more Schmidt's, which I'll compare it to them, but also evaluate it on its own. -Staining - This stained polyester and cotton clothes (I've not used it with any other fabrics) with a gungy sticky white-grey substance. It wasn't as bad when I really worked it into my skin or sweat heavily soon after wearing clothes. -Performance - held up well throughout a day that included an exercise session and walking. Note that this is not an antiperspirant but a deodorant. There was some sweat smell peeking through at the end of the day but it performed much better than crystal deodorants, about the same as Schmidt's. -Irritation - This is an individual matter, so you may not have the same reaction I did. I didn't have any clearly bad reaction other than a little itchiness during the first 10 days, but I just developed some redness under both arms, so I'm going to discontinue for a few days and only use this sparingly before workouts from here on out. I've also had irritation with Schmidt's but it didn't occur until a little longer into daily application. -Application - Applies much more smoothly than Schmidt's but it's very easy to overapply, so you need to be gentle. If you press down like you do with typical products, you will put on way too much. -Packaging - Very high quality container with a smooth pushup wheel mechanism (no idea what these are properly called) and screw top. Very heavy thick plastic and attractive label. -Scent - I went with WILDERNESS and was pleased by the blend of fresh evergreen (more in the gentle refreshing fir range than sharp minty pine range), rosemary and thyme herbals, and musky earth. The scent is gentle enough that you may not smell it unless you pop your shirt to fan it, but if you apply a lot you will occasionally sniff it, in contrast to Schmidt's which smells strongly until you wash it off. I'm going to keep an eye on the irritation factor and see if my skin can adjust to this. If it can, I'll buy again. If not, that sucks because I otherwise really liked this product, was excited to try more of their scents.

Kills odor whole day, easy to use, lasts for months.
This deo has an ideal thickness to be used as a deodorant. It isn't too soft an it isn't hard My skin didn't give any reactions to it. It doesn't give any feeling after I apply it. Nothing slippery or dry. It is like it isn't there. It does the job to get rid of the bad smell all day. I didn't take the risk of not applying it the second day. It lasts for a long time. It doesn't spread all over its container and bother me. The mechanism also works fine and easy to use it. Didn't take it on a plane, I don't know its airport security performance. I used this one and the original one so far. Both smell I didn't like by any means. I gave this one away and using the original one. I hope I can find one with a fresh and soapy smell. The original has a smell like a pine resin. This one smells more acidic. Has nothing to do with aloe vera. But they both do the job so I surely will keep using this brand. Please don't risk your life by using antiperspirant chemicals and support these guys. Also someone with experience in gathering a good smelling mix, please give a hand to these guys, they are pretty much better than good with the rest of the objectives they need to achieve.

UPDATE: White Shirts and Bad Smells don't stand a chance
UPDATE: Okay, so if I sweat while wearing a white shirt with Sam's Natural deodorant I get big huge mustard yellow stains that, so far have not come out... I'm bumping my star rating down from 5 stars, to 2. I never noticed until now since I don't tend to wear white much at all, but it's certainly a problem. I'll continue wearing with darker colors until I find a good substitution, and won't immediately, completely stop using because it's still VERY good at keeping smelliness at bay for a long time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review: I had previously found a natural deodorant that worked decently, but was too "gooey" and not as dependable as it could've been (had to apply twice daily, up to 4 times). Despite these issues, it was the best I had found... UNTIL they changed the formula. After my previous choice of natural, aluminum free deodorant went south, the search was back on. I stumbled upon Sam's after regularly Googling in search of an effective (or, more effective than what I had used at the time), natural product. [Note: At this time Sam's products were not yet available on Amazon] It was mentioned in an article along with 10 or so other contenders that I eventually weeded out based on my findings after reading a sampling of all products reviews across multiple sites that sold the contenders, as well as a number of blog reviews and a few other articles. Sam's seemed to be the newest of the products at the time, based on the limited number of reviews and the number of times I found them mentioned across the web. Nonetheless, what I was able to find (mainly from social pages) was positive, the company seemed to know what it was doing, and the active ingredients checked out. After the search\investigation, the biggest problem in this whole process was selecting a scent. I wanted a masculine scent that wasn't overpowering, didn't smell fake, and well... smelled good. keep in mind, at this time i didn't have ANY of these Amazon reviews to read. I chose cedar, and ordered from the Sam's site. After it arrived some 3, 4 days later I tried it on and while the Cedar wasn't quite what I expected, guess what? It WORKED! And not because I applied it 3528652 times in a day, but with just 1 application of 2 light pressured swipes! (1 up, 1 down). Over the next months I went through the stick, and never found myself needing to apply more than once a day (excluding after bathing, after swimming sometimes, etc..) while the scent wasn't really apparent towards the end of the day, there wasn't any BO either so I was a-ok. The next scent I got, and still use is Original. I like the scent a lot better than cedar, they have also changed their packaging from the usual "stick" with a somewhat flimsy cap, to a much higher quality round tube shape with a sturdy screw on cap that seems to keep humidity out better. Original is a nice, spicy\sweet\woody? scent that is quite agreeable. If you can't decide on a scent, try original first and I believe you'll love it, from there you can try out different scents if you like. Final notes: -Obviously not an antiperspirant so if you get hot you will still sweat (it's normal for humans to sweat lol) -Main complaint (from the current reviews) seems to be irritation. I experienced none with either scent I used, but if you think it's possible this might irritate your skin but still want to try, buy original, or better yet unscented (least amount of additional oils\extracts added on top of the base blend), try on a small area of your skin before applying normally, don't apply to scratched or already irritated skin. -2nd main complaint I see is some people are getting pit stains after switching (also didn't happen to me). Don't apply more than 2 light passes, apply to dry skin, if you are switching from an antiperspirant to this product you need to give your body time to detox and sweat out any nastiness that years of antiperspirant s has blocked up, so give yourself time to detox and expect pit stains for a week or 2 if you previously used an antiperspirant. If anyone has any questions, feel free to comment on this review and I'll do my best to answer (: Thank you Sam's, for making a natural, metal free, vegan, great smelling, all around awesome product that WORKS! I'll be a customer for life unless you change for the worst like my previous brand did.
