This is a hobby quality tool, that gets the job done!
The Avery Buttoneer works very well for attaching more or less standard size shirt buttons to two layers of fabric. Larger button’s hole spacing makes inserting the needles a little difficult, and may prevent both “T” ends from unfolding, with the button failing to attach. Same for more than three layers of fabric. In any case, use the provided thimble to hold the back side of the fabric firmly against the buttoneer while squeezing the trigger. Be sure to order a packet of refills. We used it to attach buttons through three and four layers of fabric on a count down Christmas Tree.

Not good
Bought this thing years ago and the minute that I unpacked it to use it and I follow the instructions to the letter -it did nothing. I had a button pop off my pants, went to go to fix it, and got this thing out . Well, it sure as heck didn’t work . Wound up poking my fingers with those needles . You have to use a thimble.- which is odd because it’s advertised as super simple - on-the -go kind of thing but yea , you are out on the road on a trip and uh oh “ where did I put my thimble ?” It is touted as this real simple thing - just snap in and fix your pants right away or shirt or whatever but no this thing doesn’t work. I think the previous generation worked OK but this thing is GARRRRR BAGE … The thing doesn’t properly put the plastic fastener through the holes . I literally could’ve fixed my pants faster with a needle and thread rather than this piece of garbage. I COULD HAVE , in the amount of time wasted on this thing, dug up my sewing kit or went to the drug store and got a kit faster than the amount of time wasted on this thing. This thing is now bits of plastic that are broken from being smashed by being thrown violently against the garage floor by me.

Stock up on fasteners b4 they design a "new & improved" model!
Works fine--Just like my original Buttoneer did, but could no longer get fasteners for it. Only 4 stars because I'm really ticked off that I had to buy a new one. Does this mean they are going to redesign it every few years so you can't find fasteners for the previous model so you have to buy the "new and improved" model? They could design a new model but still make fasteners for the old model available! Makes me really angry!! Suggest you stock up on fasteners now. 5/8/25 A revision of my above review: This buttoneer is okay--but not as easy to use as the original. Also it's not as small and compact as the original. But I guess we're stuck with it since we can't get refill fasteners for the original!

This 2nd generation version works as well as the older one I have. Happy I bought it.

Easy but not effective enough
I liked the idea Of a simple fix, however after just one washing the plastic attachments that hill the button on broke and now I'm in the same place as I was before ordering. It's very irritating and a waste of money.

Should have listened to the reviews
This thing was a headache to use. I only got to work right on my buttons 1 time. Every other time there was a problem from the fasteners being difficult to load in to the trigger getting stuck and not firing properly to the fasteners getting stuck in the thing due to misfires to the needle coming apart. It was just a mess. It really seems like this is made of cheap plastic that cost like $1 to make so they can sell it for $20. Just avoid and buy something else Update:. I'm taking back the one nice thing I said about this thing being it worked once. After barely a week and I'm not sure when it happened maybe in the washing machine. The fastener snapped off and now that button is lost forever because I can't find it. So now I'm taking back that one nice thing I said because the fastener was weak and didn't hold up at all. This thing is just complete trash

get the SINGER.
Don't buy. get the Singer. It isn't the same as the old style Buttoneer from years ago.

Review of Button Fastener
This button fastner did not work very well and is hard to load. I do not recommend this product.

TLDR: No fasteners included; fasteners are weak; save your money, just use needle and thread. First off the buttoneer did not come with any fasteners, despite being mentioned in the packaging on the product photos, so be prepared to purchase those separately, or better yet, don't purchase this piece of garbage at all. The fasteners only seem to work with very thin buttons, as they were not able to reach through the holes in the buttons I tried the product with. The mechanism of the fasteners seems to be similar to the nylon tags you see on clothes to attach labels/tags, so are likely to break with minimal force, so definitely not suitable as a button fastener (how else do you think the button came off in the first place). Save your money, don't buy this garbage. get a simple needle and thread, it'll work a lot better than this piece of garbage.

A bit awkward to use. Not as straight forward as you would think.
