Does not require a driver. **Q: Will this work on a sam4s cash register? my register has a usb plug but i'm not sure if the software is compatible or if i can program it....** A: I can’t give a 100% guarantee, but I believe it should. There’s not actually software for this scanner. You plug the usb dongle into your device and then activate the scanner. It should work right out of the box. When it comes to configuring settings, I believe there is a small booklet that came with the scanner containing QR codes to change the settings. Personally, I use the .pdf manual which can be found on the manufacturers website. Hope this helps :) **Q: What is the range of the scanner - can it be used 100 feet from base?** A: There is a mode where all the data is saved on the scanner so it does not need the base until you want to download all the data you scanned. This means you can be an infinite distance from the base. If you want the scanned data to go to your computer real time then it uses Blue Tooth. The range depends on the version of Blue Tooth which can range from 25 to 90 meters. The instructions are sufficient to get it up and running. The one thing that was not clear in the instructions was that you need to plug the USB dongle into the charging base and not your computer if you want to only use one USB port on your computer for powering the base and downloading the data stored on the scanner. I have used the scanner to load UPC data into MS Excel, Access, Word and Note Pad so far. It worked flawlessly in all cases. I usually use the mode where the scanned data is stored in the reader then downloaded later. I have tested the real time download mode as well and it works fine.
