Outstanding Quality + Vibrant Colors
My Top 5 Reasons to Love These LYRA Colored Pencils (in no particular order): 1. Triangular shape helps little people form good hand grips on the pencil. 2. Vibrant colors allow minimal coloring to achieve good coverage. 3. Thick color core doesn't break. 4. Requires infrequent sharpening! 5. Unlacquered version looks + feels good. (And is safe for curious baby mouths!) This is our first experience with LYRA and we're never going back to Crayola colored pencils. These are well worth the additional expense because they last so much longer and are superior in quality and performance. :) UPDATE 12-18-2012: We've owned these pencils for 8 months now, and they are used every day by our three children (we do a lot of coloring around here!). They have never broken, and we still have 3+ inches left of each pencil. I expect them to last until at least April 2013 (one year from when we purchased them). We will likely purchase the larger color spectrum set in the future since we are so satisfied with them. UPDATE 6-30-2013: Still going strong. A couple of the pencils are nearing their end in terms of length, and we'll need to order a new set in the next few months, but as stated before, we are still completely satisfied with these pencils. *Side note: We own the "Super Furby" pencils. I believe the "Super" version are longer than the regular "Furby" version.

Our favorites for littles!
I’ve been using these pencils for years. They are durable, last a long time, and give a nice color! I like that the wood is unlaquered. These are a wonderful addition of Waldorf education.

Lovely quality, perfect for pencil grip intervention
I bought these pencils (along with the Dixon Ticonderoga Laddie Tri-Write ) specifically because they are oversized and have the triangular shape as I am trying to help my 6yo daughter correct her pencil grip and the standard grips I have tried aren't working. These pencils are absolutely lovely in terms of quality. The colors are vibrant and smooth and they feel great in the hand. Restricting my daughter's writing/drawing to these and the Tri-Writes is producing improvement in her grip, so I consider them well worth the cost. You will need an oversized sharpener for these. I picked up the Faber-Castell Trio Sharpener and it has worked out well.

Loved them so much, I looked for more colors...
Wonderful for kids! More expensive than standard kids' pencils, but last longer. They help with proper grip. They've worked so well for my 5-year-old and myself that I've worked to find many colors. To my surprise, purple is the only color in the Waldorf sets that is different than colors in the regular sets. The purple in the Waldorf sets is more magenta-purple, while the purple in the regular sets is darker and leans more toward blues than pinks. If I were to try for all the colors again, I'd get the 18-color set of Super Ferby ( http://smile.amazon.com/Unlacquered-Triangular-Millimeter-Assorted-3711180/dp/B004PLNE76 ), either the small or large Waldorf set ( http://smile.amazon.com/Waldorf-Selection-Unlacquered-Triangular-3711121/dp/B004CRAKES ), and the metallic set of 12 ( http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00177XHCS ). As you're deciding which set/s, consider which sets have white and black colors, and how important those colors are to you. We've had no problems sharpening these with our Faber-Castell Double-Hole Pencil Sharpener With Eraser (one has a fish design, the other has an eagle design). "Ferby"s are the shorter size while "Super Ferby"s are the longer size. I don't think there is any other difference between Ferby and Super Ferber. Their natural wood pencils are easier to grip without fingers sliding, while the painted ones are easier to color-distinguish when grabbing colors from the pencil box.

Great Pencils
The Lyra colored pencils are some of the best children's colored pencils. They are high quality and long lasting, nothing like the weak, frustrating pencils you get at the drug store or office supply shops. These have thick, highly pigmented, softer leads that really lay on color. Yes, they are expensive but isn't it worth saving children the frustration and dissatisfaction of having to work with inferior art supplies? Maybe I wouldn't send a child to school with such expensive pencils, but these are a great at-home art supply to have. These pencils will last your child quite a long time. Make sure to get a wide holed hand held pencil sharpener and teach your child not to over sharpen these to extend their life.

Homeschool must have! (Updated review)
Love love love for our homeschool! Colors are vibrant, thick pencils for beginning learners but still a great size for more advanced! Update: Jan. 3rd, 2019 We are still using these in our homeschool. (The same pack!) They just seem to keep lasting. By far my favorite colored pencils! Great colors, don't break when sharpened, great for my 5 and 2 year old! All in all we LOVE these! I figure these will last another couple years probably!!! (We bought 2 packs and use all of them alllll the time!) Will definitely purchase again when we use them up!
