What’s the range of 5G on this?

This is a lot harder to answer than a simple number. In my home I have about 75ft diameter from the router. My home is about 2000sq ft and I have signal from one corner to the other. My farthest device is separated by about 4 walls and still pulls in about 400mbps down.

Do u need a modem with this router?

This router does not have a built-in modem. So if you need a modem with any router, you will need one with this one.

Is there like a monthly subscription or is it just a one time buy and then just use it as it is ?

There are some services built into the router that require a subscription. Specifically, you will need a subscription if you want to use the WTFast service beyond the initial 7 day trial period. Also, if you choose to use the AiCloud Sync feature with ASUS WebStorage you will need to pay a subscription if you use up more space than the free 5GB included with an account. You can also expect that 3rd party services, such as some DDNS providers, might also incur additional fees. This will be the case no matter which router you choose though. Aside from that, all normal functions that you would expect a router to have are included at no additional cost.
