How do i wire these up as atmos up firing on top of existing front tower speakers? want to add to c, f, fh, r, sub system.

you need at least a 7.1 receiver, to set up Dolby Atmos 5.1.2, or 5.2.2. my Denon has a set up option under amplifiers to where you switch the rear channel to height. hook up your front placement atmos speakers to that rear output. either on top or next to your tower speakers, or whatever you’re using for your front left and right. Use the microphone to set up your speakers if you have a Denon. And then run test tone to make sure when it gets to the rear speakers it’s actually firing your front Atmos speakers

how far do you have to sit from these if they are height mounted to gain the effect? I would be about 6.5' from the front stage

There's a lot of miscommunication about how these are used for various purposes. If you are using them as height channels, you can generally mount them as high up on the wall as you like. Dolby themselves say the speaker should be at an angle 30 to 45 degrees above listening position. Eight or nine feet up the wall should suffice. Remember, this is just for HEIGHT effects. If you are using four of them as ATMOS effects (NOT up firing), they would have be to be mounted quite high. Dolby specs have four-channel Atmos speakers at 45 and 135 degrees from listening position. Mind you, the specifications are provided for overhead speakers. Since you're considering using them in a height configuration, you'd have to match the height to put the sound where it would be if the speaker were installed overhead. When wall mounted, that's closer to perhaps 12 feet up. If you are using just two of these as Atmos channels, then they would have to be mounted absurdly high. Dolby specs two-channel Atmos at 80 degrees above MLP. This is practically impossible for any residential room, 18 or more feet high. It simply won't work as intended. If you want these for ATMOS sound effects, and you don't intend to use the ceiling bounce option, you're going to need a large room. Very large. Otherwise, they work great for standard height effects. If you're in a standard residential room, the best way to get Atmos sound is to use the ceiling bounce setup. The math is perhaps even more complicated, but you generally want them 3-4 feet from ceiling and 5-6 feet from listening position. I did the math for my room and found that tilting them about 10 degrees forward (raising the back by about two inches) brought the two-channel Atmos sweet spot to within a few degrees of Dolby specifications in my room. Sounds great.

How would you guys compare these to the svs atmos elevation speakers?

I am currently using the svs Elevation speakers as height surround. I also currently have the 500sa that I am using as my front height speakers. I've used both in both front and surround height positions. I believe the 500sa to be more detailed with more clarity than the svs Elevation speakers. I just ordered these piano black 500sa to replace the svs Elevations. At this price, I couldn't pass them up. I should have them in hand in a couple of days. Then it's time to re-watch a few movies‼️😊👍

Can you hang these on the wall as rear speakers in a 5.1 system?

Yes, there is a switch on bottom of speaker. You can set it for Atmos setup or for regular surround system. There is a keyhole slot on back to hang the speakers on your wall.
