Book itself: Many vivid colorful pictures. They are not drawings, but good photographs. Descriptions include habitat, Food, nesting, time active, mate, young and always coloration. The descriptions are short and are no frills.. Just the facts in a short paragraph but very informative. I own other guides, and Smithsonian is laid out the best, and has the best and biggest color pictures. When your looking at the actual animal and need a reference, the big vivid picture comes in handy... Specializes in almost every Snake in the world, turtles frogs and most lizards... I am not a expert on how many different reptiles I'm sure this guide does not cover them all... This is a World guide not Local or North American. If you want one for your specific area or state this is not the book for you. As a adult I found it to be great...hope this helps

This book helped my Grandson understand Reptiles and Amphibians. Some are a problem but some are not. He has many fears as his Mother is scared to death of creatures. Books like this give a comfortable way to understand what is bad and what in good in the animal kingdom.

Great book, lots of detsils and favts, stunning photos, its going to be a gift to for a lizard/reptile lover.

I found this book extremely interesting and educational . It is well laid out and beautifully illustrated . It is well upto DK's standard and , as usual , is extremely comprehensive and full of facts . A must for those interested in our cold blooded friends .
