I first recall reading about them in a magazine I now know to be their family production. Over the years I’ve been on and off again with the THM plan, and when I saw I’m That Girl being promoted, I assumed it was another book about food, health and whatnot and thought it would be a fun gift for my sister, who recently moved out of state, as a way to keep connections and encourage each other’s healthy journey. I had no idea what the book was about, only that it had a pretty cover.And then I opened the book and read the first line of chapter one and about fell off of my chair…”Every word you speak holds power.” Wait, what? This is not a book about food!We humans don’t take any consideration how our thoughts and words define us. We spew hurtful and degrading words, often about and to ourselves, on a daily basis. I’m That Girl is a beautiful journey into our how words and thoughts have control and power, either negative or positive. The book, written in Pearl & Serene’s in typical friendly and wordy convos, line up each idea with biblical principles and specific verses. Each chapter challenges you to consider your thoughts and words and what it does not only to your health and well-being, but those around you. The 3 Linda’s chapter is an eye opener; I’ve stood in all of their shoes at some point in my life and know the consequences of each.You’re not a Bible person? That’s fine too. I encourage you to read it anyway and see if their discovery lines up with fact. They provide a good amount of scientific studies to back their claims up. I am familiar with many of the studies, but it was great to see them all compiled in one place.When I purchased this book, I truly thought that after completion, I would hand it off and let someone else enjoy it. But by the time I arrived at the Sides and Desserts chapters (you know they can’t get too far from food analogies!), I knew I would NOT be handing it off to anyone else, because of its section of affirmations, and more importantly, a plethora of verses that grouped according to whom I’m choosing to be, are a gold mine in themselves. I have already marked pages some for my immediate use where I personally struggle. So, I guess I will have to purchase new copies to pass along:)Ladies, (men, these words are valuable even if not geared toward you) this book is worth it’s weight in gold. But you cannot read it and then put it away. You have to do what it says (there’s a Bible verse for that!). If you’ve had a lifetime of negative thoughts and words, it will take you a while to retrain your brain. I’ve been studying this understanding of the power of words in God’s word for many years still have to consciously stop myself when I’m going down a mental road that isn’t productive and change my thoughts. But I’m always better off for it.
