A: I use this case for my 2017 10.5" iPad Pro.  Fits perfect.

**Q: does it lay flat when the case is folded?**
A: if you open the case, and fold the cover behind it, it will lay flat.

**Q: does it lay flat when it is folded?**
A: Yes it does quite comfortably

**Q: What is a pencil adapter?**
A: I think the new pencil comes with small adaptor that comes with the pencil. The pencil has a 'male' lightening connector. The older version may not come with it. This allows it to be plugged into the lightening port on the ipad.
