"I'm surprised how good these sound for the price"
"I'm surprised how good these sound for the price" is what everyone says about Koss. Especially the kph30i. This is better than the kph30i imo. Very clear sound. Out of the box it sounds just as good as the kph30i and the headband should be a lot more durable. I don't have my kph30i with me right now to directly compare but there are 2 things that I can tell are different (and better) about these: > No static noise at low volume. I am using the "utility" usb-c cord which has a DAC in it and that could explain this difference but its hard to recommend this cable for the price and...problems... (it doesn't put sound through both channels unless you have the connection rotated perfectly and you DONT TOUCH IT......) EDIT: this is because of the DAC. If my DAC add on wasn't defective I would highly recommend it - even at the $40 or whatever it is - and I still might just buy a replacement someday for myself... > Bass sounds more substantial. These are absolutely not bass heavy headphones but I like how bass sounds on these better than the kph30i. I think these have a "warm" sound signature but I don't really know what I'm talking about. Final thoughts: with yaxi pads (for porta pros), these headphones sound comfy and are comfy. comfy/10 EDIT: I am using these with my Pixel 4. I don't know if modern phones would sound better without the DAC, but I can say definitively that the DAC makes a huge difference for the Pixel 4. The kph40 with the DAC sounds almost as good as my Sennheiser 6xx without an amp. The 6xx wins on soundstage and what I'll call "smoothness" idk. But they trade blows on clarity. The kph30i sounds almost as good as a kph40 without a DAC, but unless you absolutely cannot spend the extra $10 to upgrade to the kph40, there is no reason to buy a kph30i in current year. The kph40 sounds better without a DAC, sounds SIGNIFICANTLY better with the DAC add-on, and seems to be 100x more durable. It is a much better design.

Headphones that can scale to your DAC
The Koss KPH40's are a big surprise, in a very positive way. I bought the package with the extra cord and volume controller. I believe the volume controller is also a DAC, but I can't say for sure. All I can say is that the extra cord with the volume controller does not sound that good. So why are the Koss KPH40's a positive surprise? Because when it is used with the original cord without the volume control and attached to a good player with a good DAC, like the AudioQuest Cobalt, between the player and the Koss KPH40, the music comes to life. It is dynamic and resolving, the bass is very good, the mids are natural, and the highs are there but not too bright. I have tried other DACs with the KPH40's and the sound quality mimic's the quality of the DAC I used. What I'm saying is that the sound of the KPH40's scales with the quality of the DAC one uses(or the quality of the DAC in your player device). That is a good thing in that a lot of headphones can't scale, these can! I have a set of open back Sennheiser 660's (the 660's cost over ten times the KPH40's) and while the Koss KPH40's aren't equal to the Sennheiser's, the KPH40's sound quite good! I find myself listening more to the Koss KPH40's than to the Sennheiser's because the Koss are so comfortable. Also, the Sennheiser's get warm on my ears and the KPH40's aren't warm on the ears. I don't feel like I'm missing much in terms of sound quality with the Koss phones when used with a good DAC. One thing I should mention is that it seemed that the KPH40's needed some break in time. At least to me, the highs seemed to get smoother after a few hours of setting them aside and letting them play. In fact, I have ordered another pair of KPH40's to use when I travel. I just wonder why Koss calls them "Utility". They sound way better than the name implies. (Now, if Koss would only come out with a balanced adaptor cord.) At $40.00 I highly recommend the Koss KPH40's as one of the best values in audio gear.

Great Lightweight Headphones- Koss KPH40 Utility On-Ear Headphones Plus Utility Cord USB
Koss KPH40 Utility On-Ear Headphones Plus Utility Cord USB - Great Lightweight Headphones. I searched high and low for these headphones, as I specifically wanted very lightweight over the ear Headphones with good sound quality. Not an easy find, as most over the ear Headphones tend to not be very lightweight. And I personally don't care for ear buds. So I was thrilled to find these Koss KPH40 Headphones, super lightweight ! And sound quality is great !! These lightweight headphones are a powerhouse of sound quality !! And having the cord include sound volume buttons to control the volume level is great. Worth the price !!

For the money, AWESOME
I needed something inexpensive, and these far exceeded my expectations. I use it with my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus. Works flawlessly, and sounds really good. I highly recommend these to anyone.

Sounds Like It Looks
I fell for the hype on YouTube and bought these and the utility cord thing. These have no bass and the cord adds nothing to the sound. Save your money.

No difference
The audio quality is about the same quality as my apple earbuds (the headphone jack). The music also leaks, but is still sometimes tolerable. DONT GET THIS PRODUCT PLEASE

The best value.
In a nut shell, you'll have to spend over $200 to get noticably better sound from a headphone. No Bluetooth product competes. Best value bar none.
