Sea M.D. is more concentrated and has a higher dose of magnesium than ConcenTrace. It takes two years and all seasons to reach these levels. For this reason, Sea M.D. is the flagship product produced by the by the Anderson family, original harvesters of mineral supplements from Utah’s Great Salt Lake for over 50 years. The Andersons were the founders of Trace Minerals Research before spinning off the health food store brand in 1999. They supplied ConcenTrace to the new owners for a time, but there has since been a split, and today the two companies obtain their minerals from different sources. Mineral Resources International (MRI) is still a three-generation family-owned company, and they have full control over their original solar pools from start to finish. This gives verifiable provenance and quality oversight. Each gallon is harvested on a remote part of the Great Salt Lake then bottled at MRI’s manufacturing facility in Ogden, Utah, U.S.A.

This does include very, very small amounts of heavy metals like the one you mention. To put this in perspective, the levels are so low that when the product is sent out for independent lab analysis, these elements are regularly not detected with state-of-the-art equipment. The product is rigorously tested for purity, and it has been officially approved by the FDA to receive a GRAS designation, which means “Generally Recognized as Safe,” for human use. Additionally, Sea M.D. passes a heavy metals safety test for mineral ingredients that are used in foods. It is a pass or fail test that comes from the U.S. Food Chemicals Codex, which is a compendium of ingredients that can be used in foods.

SHORT ANSWER: Sea M.D. contains trace amounts of naturally occurring arsenic. Like most food/beverages it is well below the allowable limit for arsenic in bottled water.  LONG ANSWER: Sea M.D. averages an arsenic content of 0.78 parts-per-million (ppm) or milligrams per liter (mg/L). If you mix half a daily dose of Sea M.D. (1mL) into one liter of water, this will result in a flavor that is like mineral water but is not so strong as to be unpalatable. At this dose, the arsenic level in the water is about 1/12 of the FDA’s allowable limit. Keep in mind that one benefit of a complete trace mineral supplement is that all the elements balance each other. Hence, nearly all trace elements are present in Sea M.D. in naturally-occurring, detectible amounts, while none are higher than safe and appropriate levels.
