This pump performs very well for draining and water transfer tasks. Setup was simple, and it started immediately without any issues. It moves water quickly and runs smoothly without excessive noise. The construction feels solid and durable, which inspires confidence for long-term use. A dependable pump for sump, utility, or emergency water removal. I even had an issue with one that I had purchased and they replaced it with ease.

Great little pump. Using it on an automatic pool cover to keep the rain water off of it. The original pump that we were given by the pool installer burned up after approximately eight months of use. Hopefully this will last longer. They seem to be very similar build and quality. Very heavy duty plastic. Highly recommend buying the little nozzle that looks like an elephant trunk so you do not have to monkey with drainage hoses. Typically shoots the water approximately 12 feet. Wish it drained down farther, leaves about 2 inches of water around the pump whenever it is done x10’ circle. Maybe 3/4 a gallon that it just doesn’t suck off. Prior pump did the same thing so I did not decrease a star for that but I do see cheaper looking models that say down to 2/5” +30sec pump time to get more off. Might try that at some point, but they don’t look trustable to leave while you go on vacation.

Like others, my pump was constantly getting air-locked. I discovered that you have to carefully route the garden hose. There shouldn't be any "dips" in the hose. My pump was getting air-locked because the hose dipped into a garden box. I re-routed the hose to go around, not inside, the garden box. In other words, the hose should come out of the pool and reach a peak. After the peak, the hose should go constantly downhill to the discharge. You don't want water to get "trapped" in a dip in the hose. In addition, there is a tiny vent hole that should be kept clean. I have a lot of trees and vegetation, so my vent hole was getting clogged with debris. The pump no longer gets air-locked, and it turns on and off reliably. The instructions neglect to say anything about how to properly route the hose. I can't make a definitive judgment about the pump because I have owned it for less than 1 year. The pump seems sturdy, it stayed outside all winter, and it can keep up with heavy rain. The pump also survived on the pool cover during hurricane Sandy in NJ. Little Giant is a well-known maker of quality pumps. The pump is power efficient and only draws 2.2 amps. This is important for an emergency power system that will keep the pump running during hurricanes, outages, etc. Jan. 2016 update: My pump has been working since 2012; it survived hurricane Sandy. I have some more advice. Before the first significant snow/ice/extreme cold, I pull the pump out of the pool. As a result, the pump doesn't spend 1 or 2 months frozen at the bottom of a mountain of snow and ice. This also helps to prevent another problem where the float arm gets stuck in the up position because of ice/cold. This turns the pump on, but it never shuts off, which could cause the pump to burn out. The float arm can also get stuck in the up position when the pump is submerged by very heavy rain. Bumping or jiggling the pump allows the stuck float arm to fall down, thereby shutting off the pump. Amazon notified me that Little Giant had a recall because of the sticking float arm (not caused by ice). They sent me a new pump for free. However, I will continue to use the original pump until it dies. I still get a very infrequent air-lock. I get the impression that an air-lock is most likely when the pump hasn't activated in a long time. You can detect an air-lock because the pump hasn't removed water, the pump is "humming", and the water level on the cover is higher than normal. As the instructions indicate, I leave the pump unplugged from the power for about 10 minutes (longer is better). When I plug it back in, the pump works normally. Do not unplug the pump for just a few seconds because that will not fix the air-lock. In conclusion, I understand that all of these pool cover pumps are problematic. The Little Giant can provide many years of service. You have to "manage" the pump, especially during the winter. Jan. 2017 update: The original pump is still going. March 2021 update: The original pump finally broke. Maybe it can be fixed, but it is not really worth the trouble and the cost of parts when you can just buy a new one. I might take a look when it gets warmer outside. I am very satisfied with the pump.

Bought this to replace the four year old one which was included with my pool installation and its winter LoopLoc cover. LoopLoc will not warranty the cover without a pump. [38,000 gallon gunite clover-shaped salt pool, no heater, zone 7a, open +/- April 15-October 15]. I thought mine was broken, and I asked my pool closing company if I could buy a new unit because after four years the thing would not start up. I'd have to go outside in driving rain and unplug it, pull it over to the side, flip it over, shake it a little, talk to it really nicely, ask it to behave itself and just do its job, go to put it back in the center of the cover and realize the telescopic brush was in the shed, go get that and try to push it back into the center of what is now a huge puddle stretching the $5,000 cover inward, realizing it's probably not smart to be doing this in a lightning storm, wondering if I unplugged it OH DEAR GOD I'M GONNA BE ELECTROCUTED stupid thing WORK PLEASE WORK! I did not want to go through that again. I figured after four Maryland winters it had reached the end of its useful lifespan, so I ordered another one from Amazon (my pool company switched to a different brand and they had no gainful experience with the new model or company). I read all the reviews including the reviews of this one--which I already own--and everyone mentions how theirs would not prime. Someone else said the hose was too long, and then there's all this information about physics and slope and gravity and water pressure and pump capacity (eyes glazing over). So listen, I am just a woman with a small brain and what I got out of the reviews was that my hose was too long. I cut the hose to maybe 15', and HOLY CRAP the old one works like new again! So the moral of the story is: four Maryland winters and it still works perfectly as long as your hose is not too long and points downhill. No filters to clean, no maintenance. These other ones are like, "Flip it over, unscrew this, push this in, get a paper clip and clean out this hole very gently making sure not to damage the frame THIS HOLE here NO NOT THAT ONE dang you probably broke it." Not this baby. Once in a season if you have a lot of muddy leaves you might have to twist off the bottom with your hands and hose it out, but that's it. Now I have a backup in case it truly dies...but four years for $135 is better than any other appliance I own. Period. Can they make dishwashers?!!

Great pump that keeps the water off my pool cover. The only issue I have is that small debris will get in a primer hole that stops the pump from removing the water. Not a big deal to fix but a nuisance to remove the cover to remove the small debris. This is my second pump and the first lasted about 5 seasons before the motor locked.

Had this one before but did not replace it then less then a year had to buy it the last one lasted ten years.

Excellent pump for my pool cover. Does a great job even when there are leaves and blossoms on cover. Works even when only a small amount of water. I bought this because I have had the same pump since 2016 and didn't know how long it would last. Luckily I bought this new one because the old one finally gave up. Not bad though as it did the job for 5 years.

It comes with a US plug and not 240v

Fantastic pump which replaced my old one. Previous pump still working well after 10 years of use but electric cable perished so decided to replace. Lets hope this new addition last another 10 years+.
