Alter Eco Americas Organic Chocolate Bar - Dark Blackout - 2.82 Oz Bars - Case Of 12

My former favorite (not naming names) chocolate has been accused of allowing lead and cadmium into their otherwise quality chocolate. I searched for a replacement and saw a video about 5 chocolates that were of high quality and also, they were companies that practiced fair trade. The video also listed 10 chocolates that were not as high of a quality and/or didn't practice fair trade. Alter Eco was on the good list. Alter Eco Classic Blackout 85% is great chocolate. It's firm but it is almost soft enough to melt in your mouth, it has no sweet taste (it does have organic raw cane sugar) but no bitter taste either, just a balanced rich cocoa flavor. The question is: How serious are you about your chocolate? You can currently buy 36 Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars on Amazon for $33.50. 36 bars x 1.55 ounces a bar = 55.8 total ounces. $33.50 / 55.8 ounces = $0.60 an ounce. I bought 12 Alter Eco bars for $47.04 on Amazon. Each bar is 2.82 ounces. 2.82 x 12 = 33.8 total ounces. $47.04 / 33.8 = $1.39 an ounce, more than twice the cost of Hershey's Milk Chocolate. Fair trade sounds good and the quality is great. I'll probably buy this product again. So...are you willing to pay double for some serious chocolate?

I like the alter eco 85% CACAO bar for the taste and the high quality ingredients. Usually I buy one at a time via Whole Foods and they have been all fine. Decided to buy a box of 12 via Amazon. They came well packaged, unopened and undamaged. Expiration date 03/15/26 Lot 1567821B so should have been fresh for a year plus from the date received. Upon opening they were light brown and not black, had white marks on the edges, fully stale and small tastes verified they were bad including texture. Seems like the vendor or along the supply chain that they were not stored properly and deteriorated to not edible. Unfortunate. These are posted as non-return items.

Some of the best tasting dark chocolate bars I've had. At 12 bar shipments, only $4.50 per bar. With cocoa prices so high now (better products between $5-$7) I'm REALLY happy to have found this. Went down a rabbit hole concerning cadmium & lead levels in many dark chocolates. Discovered my fav. bars (due to lowest price & sugars added) from Trader Joe's were tested as among HIGHEST contaminated levels. Of the 5 bars they tested as lowest contaminated, these were the cheapest. So very happy that they're also 'delicious'! You'll notice lots of reviews for bars bought from 3'd party sellers were not stored properly & received inedible. Unfortunate. I'd recommend buying only from Alter-Eco shipper (as I did). Great packaging with a cooler pack added. Kudos all around! The new goto.
