The t.v. series is good;the books are even better
If you love the television series, you'll love the books even more. I feared that one would outshine the other and spoil the fun, but the television version stayed pretty close and where it diverges, the books are even better. Johnson is a well-read author and the vastness of his own reading comes out in the words and thoughts of his main character, Walt Longmire. The books are well-written, the characters are believable, and they are truly Western in a real-life way. Nothing sappy or snarky. No gratuitous violence or vulgar sex. Longmire is a genuinely good man in a world that presses back against goodness.

JUST As Good As the SERIES
These books are every bit as entertaining as the TV Series is, only better from the standpoint of being more descriptive of the story content, and better character development to help you understand why the story goes the direction it does. Johnson is an author who developed late in life and does a masterful job of storytelling.

Walt Longmire is one of my favorite fictional characters
Walt Longmire is one of my favorite fictional characters. The pacing of the stories is just about right. The interaction between the characters is superb. Longmire is the perfect mix of Western, modern crime drama and "romance". Craig Johnson makes Walt Longmire just awkward enough around women to make him believable. Every character is just broken enough that they are likable and real. They are are all really delightful reads.

If one likes TV series (and likes to read) get this set. Great reads.
Great reading. Working my way through the set and purchased next two books. Only problem I see is i’ll Run out of books in about a week and have to search for something as good - which might be difficult. If you liked the TV series you’ll enjoy these. Gives a lot more depth to the characters and background. Also adds several other characters which one quickly enjoys reading about.

Great modern western stories!
I originally found out about Longmire during the fourth season of the show. It took me awhile to realize that the show was based on the characters created by Craig Johnson. I am currently reading the 6th book, and have loved everyone so far! His subtle humor, and ability to make the characters real has gotten me back into reading! I will say that is took a few chapters in the first book to really get into it. I was getting lost, because I thought I knew the story line from seeing the show, but they are different. That being said, if your an avid fan of the show, and you're looking for more Longmire, you found it!

i love, love
Outstanding books. i love, love, love them. Craig Johnson has created a sympathetic character--a sheriff with a good heart and a great sense of humor. The other characters are also interesting and well developed. I like the little bits of arcane knowledge that he slips into the books. I'm just sorry there aren't more. Looking forward to the next installment.
