## Description

The ICUSB1284 USB to Parallel Interface Converter Cable allows PCs that support the USB specification to print to any standard parallel printer. The USB interface provides a much faster data transfer rate than a standard parallel port, thereby reducing the time waiting for a print job to be sent to your printer. Review: Works with XP & HP 430 large format printer - Worked perfectly for my set up. I have windows xp on a 22 year old Dell Gen 4 computer. I use it with 2002 Autocad. I also have old HP 430 D large format printer attached that is probably as old as the computer. All works well. I came across another HP430 that needed repairs and some love. After repairs the printer would start a print well then go all black. I bought this new Star Tech cable and I turned every piece of equipment off and plugged in the Star Tech cable and then turned on the printer first. Second after the printer had done all of its checks and was waiting, I booted the computer and the add new hardware wizard opened and I followed my install for the printer and all works well. Bottomline, the cable was plug and play for me. I had to install my printer but that was no big deal.

**Q: Will work to support a security dongle for an engineering software?**
A: No, as this shows up as a USB Printer Support hardware and not an LPT parallel port. Therefore, it only works with printers. 

From an FAQ on their site: "This USB parallel device is only intended to be used with printers. Your operating system will register this device as a USB Printer Support device and not as an additional LPT port. If you need a USB parallel device to handle parallel devices in addition to printers, consider the ICUSB2321284."

Note, the ICUSB2321284 seems to be EOL from them now.

**Q: Would this work with a Nintendo 64 Game Shark?**
A: I don't know anything about the game machines, if the connector of the game machine is the same as the DB25 (game plug needs to be male) then it should work with one exception. The software in the computer that you plug the USB into has to recognize the game (or machine) your playing, this is why I run different computers, 64 bit and 32 bit versions of Windows 7 and 10. I don't mess with trying to hook it up to Linux although that might be more versatile I am not that informed as how to do such a project.

**Q: does it work with window 10?**
A: Yes, If Windows 10 includes the driver software for your printer. I have a 2002 vintage printer and had to download the driver from the HP website.

Installed it on a new MB installation that did not have a printer port. The printer is an HP Deskjet 622 and it was recognized immediately by my new 64 bit Win 7 installation. Unfortunately the drivers for the 64 bit version of Win 7 Pro were broken - an HP or Windows thing, not a problem with the cable & its driver. After searching the web for the fix I found it, installed the new HP drivers and now it works perfectly. The bonus for me is that the 10' cable gives me the extra length to make a comfortable built in installation. I'd certainly recommend it.
