I have several spinners. This is my favorite. This is an excellent desk-top piece. It spins for a long-time for the amount of friction with the gears. Do you really want it to spin for 3-5 minutes? I don't know. This one has a lot of pieces, so it is not going to spin that long. Mine spins longer than I even care to wait. You can hold this piece in the middle or on the edges. You can spin it as a whole or just the gears. There are some lower star reviews because it does not spin for as long as less complex devices. Of course.... This is a quality piece.

It's incredibly heavy and well made, but it doesn't spin very long at all. Can't get mine to spin more than 45 seconds...

The gears do spin. But they won't spin while the whole thing is spinning. I was very disappointed by that since I had a different one that DID spin like that and that was the feature I was looking for
