The Making of Dunkirk

It’s always fun to read or browse through these Christopher Nolan film-art books, since nobody in the industry is making movies like him. Dunkirk is, in my opinion, one of the greatest War epics of all times, and it’s incredible to see all the effort that was put behind it by the maestro Chris Nolan and the many talented men and women behind the scenes. This book serves as a great collection item for cinema fans or Nolan fans, and gives great insight to the behind the scenes process of making this almost-Oscar-winning film. Serves as a great read or browsing through, and incredibly designed with a lot of great excerpts and pictures. Highly recommended.

I couldn't wait to receive this book. The "Miracle of Dunkirk" was not new to me. I ready knew of this rescue years and years ago when my father spoke of "Britain stood alone" and this was back in the 50's. When I matured, I started to delve into this subject purchasing books and alternative sides (i.e. DUNKIRK: The Men They Left Behind). Then I saw the movie and I actually left the theater in a daze. The book is so beautifully written with wonderful photography. There are only two drawbacks in my opinion. I was hoping for an actual script such as in THE Da VINCI CODE ILLUSTRATED EDITION where I could read the actual dialogue and notes. The other drawback was of the two page photo of the Spitfire with Tom Hardy wearing that bloody mask! Beautiful Spitfire, crummy mask!

On peut facilement se jeter dans la scène de tournage grâce à ce photobook. J'adore tous les dessins, concepts, textes... Chris Nolan et son équipe nous offrent à nouveau une expérience extraordinaire. N'hésitez pas à le commander, c'est un très bon investissement pour mieux comprendre comment l'un des meilleurs réalisateurs du monde accomplissait son premier film d'une vraie histoire. D'ailleurs je suis très contente de ce premier achat sur Amazon. Comme on l'a pas chez nous, j'avais peur que le colis soit mal expédié mais il est arrivé là dans une semaine.

This book gave me another level of respect for Christopher Nolan. It's very interesting to see all the picture of him swimming with the camera crew to get some of the shots. I was also surprised to see that most of this film was done practically. When watching it in theaters (on 70mm IMAX), it was hard for me to tell if the flying shots with all the planes were actually real or CGI. I was happy to see it all was done for real! I truly did enjoy this book. If you loved the movie, you'll love this book! No doubt in my mind! Very well done!

I always liked Dunkirk a lot but I felt like it was a step down compared to other Nolan films. But after reading this book I realized how much effort went into making it and that it has its own enormous merits. A picture portraying Nolan floating in a dive suit in the middle of the ocean gives you an idea of the dedication he pours into his films. The book even pointed out a pretty obvios detail of the movie I had overlooked and that gives it another writing level. A great book about a great film.

Very great information and selection of pictures that give the reader more than a glimpse of how challenging this film was to make. For both fans of the film or viewers left puzzled by Christopher Nolan's approach, I would recommend reading what went into the making of this film. In a lot of ways, it's just as fascinating as the film itself.

Christopher Nolan is a God among directors. Saw the movie many times in theaters and wanted to know more about the process of making it. Great pictures and plenty of info. Can't wait to have to DVD as well!
