It attaches to Raspberry Pi by way of one of the two small sockets on the board upper surface. This interface uses the dedicated CSI interface, which was designed especially for interfacing to cameras. The CSI bus is capable of extremely high data rates, and it exclusively carries pixel data. Raspberry Pi is NOT INCLUDED. The board itself is tiny, at around 25mm x 20mm x 9mm. It also weighs just over 3g, making it perfect for mobile or other applications where size and weight are important. It connects to Raspberry Pi by way of a short ribbon cable. The camera is connected to the BCM2835 processor on the Pi via the CSI bus, a higher bandwidth link which carries pixel data from the camera back to the processor. This bus travels along the ribbon cable that attaches the camera board to the Pi. The sensor itself has a native resolution of 5 megapixel, and has a fixed focus lens onboard. In terms of still images, the camera is capable of 2592 x 1944 pixel static images, and also supports 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p60/90 video. The camera is supported in the latest version of Raspbian, Raspberry Pi's preferred operating system. I thought these would be great to use for a low profile night vision security camera, but they don't work well outside of a few specific situations, and the IR lamps glow red and are very visible to the human eye. The night vision works really well within a confined space, which is great for things like doorways, hallways, most rooms, etc. But when you get more than 10ft away from it, the picture quality drops hard.All in all this is really more for a hobbiest than for home security or anything stealthy, it just isn't practical, and the Raspberry Pi system doesn't make it user friendly or cost effective for the quality. For most practical purposes, I'd rather just get an older 720p IR security cameras and make due. You can get them on sale for cheap.TBH, these would probably work best in a zoo setting, where you needed a wireless night vision watching an animal in a small enclosure or house, and you need to keep tabs on its health, behavior, or offspring. Because having something big and bulky, with a bunch of wires can be very difficult to work with over a pi camera hooked up to a Pi Zero W that feeds a video signal wirelessly to another computer. So I might use them for that. But who knows. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Camera works fine *by J***I on Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2017* Works so far. It's the 5MP camera, so not the newer one, but for CV or security recording it works fine. It doesn't come with the focus adjustment tool, but you can use the same one from the official Pi camera. The cable for the Zero is a little thin, but I think that might be required from the mechanical design of the Zero's camera connector. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect 3D printer pi cam night vision setup *by J***Z on Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2018* It works like it should. the camera focus works very well mounted on a moving bed the image stays focused and sharp. It is only a 5 mp but works better than the standard v2 pi camera in my printer.
