Q: Can water go through it? Looking for mats that are solid and not allow liquids to go through to the table.

Not accurate, these are not water proof

Q: Are these heat resistant on formica counter?

I dont know for sure, but to be safe I wouldn't. When I had my counters installed they said NOTHING hot unless you have a good thickness under what ever you set down.

Q: Will these matts scratch fine wood table?

No. The surface is a soft textured plastic and the edges are smooth and rounded. But I do recommend using a coaster, instead of just the mat, for hot drinks on a nice wood table.
