I don't use my car much (sometimes not for 3 weeks) and twice in recent months it has failed to start due to the battery being flat. I bought a new battery but my local garage and my neighbour advised me to get an Optimate trickle charger and leave it permanently connected. Supposedly this will give much greater battery life as well as keeping the battery in an optimal state of charge. I have connected the eyelet terminals (which are on a short cable with a plastic socket at the other end) to the battery posts so it's then very quick and easy to connect the cable from the charger to the socket, which I have secured with a cable tie to one of the battery handles. The charger, when first connected, displayed an orange light for about 3 hours; then there was a flashing green light and finally a permanent green light. This is in accordance with the handbook and means that the charger is working normally. So far, so good but I have used it only for 6 days. Time will tell.

However, Amazon should not recommend buying the other two items with it as the trickle charger comes with the extra items, the return has cost me £7.35 NO thanks to wrong advise from Amazon. The charger is absolutely a great product though shame about Amazon's totally wrong advise and information.
