This is one of the first versions from the Sunflowers in a vase series. The vibrant golden yellow colors were made possible by new innovations in manufactured pigments in the 19th century. Although Van Gough, Dutch Grand Master (1853-1890) only sold one painting during his lifetime, he is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 19th century. He did not begin painting until his late twenties and in the short time between the start of his career and his death at age 37, he had painted more than 2100 artworks.
