A Little Princess / The Secret Garden

To begin, yes its true, this release does not include the widescreen format but thats not why you are reading this review, you want to know if these films are great, and the answer is a resounding Yes!!Beginning with A Little Princess, I passed on watching it for many years ignorant of the fact that it is a true classic. I must give the director Alfonso Cuaron all the credit in the world his vision for this film is pristine. There is symbolism and meaning in every scene. If you are a student of film making, then this is the way it should be done. A Little Princess is a true Art Film, a work of art, and watching it is almost like admiring a fine painting. The music, script, cinematography, and dialogue are nearly perfect and the emotional impact of the film is intense. My advice would be to watch it several times and gauge how it operates on different emotional, spiritual, and mythical levels. I always found Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to be the best of the Potter films and it is now no surprise that it was directed by the same man responsible for A Little Princess.The Secret Garden is also a fine film, written by the same author, both films share a common theme of a young child raised in India whose lives are suddenly uprooted. The substance of the film centers on how they deal with the curveballs life throws at them. The story here is not as complex as A Little Princess but it is a pleasure to watch the evolution of the children, the family, and those around them and how they grow as the garden blooms. Simple but still poignant. Most importantly both films are great for adults and children alike.

The Secret Garden and A little Princess are 2 good movies. I like the fact that they are both on one disk. The Secret Garden is my favorite movie. I am glad Amazon had it and I recommend these movies to anyone who enjoyed watching them. :)

I bought “A Little Princess / The Secret Garden” DVD for our annual Turkey-day movie marathon as they are both timeless, enjoyable for all audiences. The DVD was packaged well and arrived earlier than expected, THANK YOU! ☺️

This was a gift for a young family member who loves stories. The stories are classic ones I remember from years ago and proved to be entertaining for the next generation as well.

The price on this 2 movie set is excellent.Both movies are well done, but I do not like how both of these films felt it necessary to change the plot from the book's plot.The Secret Garden kept fairly close to the book, but missed out on some scenes from the book that I particularly enjoyed.A Little Princess veered from the original plot more drastically. I did not like the casting of Sara Crewe. The character in the book is much slimmer and has dark hair. I don't know why they felt it necessary to change the plot so much especially around the fate of Sara's father. They could have used much more of the book's dialogue.Don't watch these movies if you are expecting the books to be translated exactly. If you are okay with some plot changes, these movies are decent versions but could have been much better.

These were 2 of my favorite movies when i was a kid. So great to always have them now.

Both great, but Little Princess the best!

I LOVE this version of the Secret Garden, Kate Maberly is outstanding, I love watching her! So when this was billed on the cover as having Kate Maberly as the leading actress I thot she would have the lead in both movies. This is NOT the case, Liesel Matthews has the lead in The Little Princess. I was disappointed but I enjoyed A LIttle Princess immensely, it's very well done and acted. Sure beats the Shirley Temple version! Liesel Matthews' character is quite multi-faceted and she does an excellent job in each different role she assumes. The settings are luscious and gorgeous, the animation-like acting out of her stories and dreams is very well done. I think the directors of both movies did an outstanding job and I look forward to watching these 2 films again and again!
