Used like MFR or trigger point
Really helpful loosening up my lower back. For me feels best to put in place and sustain hold until muscles relax. Trying to use like a foam roller for my back was too aggressive but worked very well to loosen my back.

Hurts So Good!
I purchased this roller to take on vacations since I’m experiencing excruciating back pain. Huge amounts of walking exacerbate it.The roller’s small enough to pack in a suitcase, yet large enough to get the spots in your back that you want/need to hit. As others have mentioned, it’s very hard. There’s no padding on it. That’s not an issue for me, but it may be for some. I highly recommend this roller and find myself using it almost daily, even when not traveling.-If you can, do a few back stretches before you lie down on the roller. I think that helped me to relax more, and then…-RELAX your muscles as soon as you lie down on the roller. It’s not a soft thing to lay on to begin with and if you’re tensed up it will really hurt. Take a deep breath in, slowly breathe out, and imagine your muscles melting into the shape of the roller.-The instructions say to use this on the floor, which I do, but I also found the roller gave me quite a bit of relief if I used it on a bed. Since a bed is soft, of course, you won’t get the deep amount of pressure a hard floor gives. Just know that you could use it on a bed, if necessary, and still feel a benefit.-If my back muscles are really, really tender, I have folded a towel in half or thirds and put it between the roller and my back for just a little extra padding.

A needed item for your weary body.
This is the correct diameter for your back. It's also ridged enough for good muscle relief.

Great for gentler, more detailed fascia rolling
I bought this roller along with another larger "original" foam roller. I had never used a foam roller before, but I was looking for some help with chronic back/shoulder pain.Previously, I visited a chiropractor and massage therapist over a long period (over 6 months) without significant improvement. At first, I tried this roller and wasn't impressed. I thought I would return it and keep the larger original roller. That one gave life-changing results. After a few days with the larger roller, though, this smaller and softer unit was good to work in more detail around the spine. I was just too stiff to get any use out of it at first. If you have very tight fascial adhesions on your back, I would recommend that you try the larger knobbed "orginal" roller. These two rollers together have benefitted me so much more than a chiro or massage therapist. And only in a matter of days!NEITHER the chiro or the massage therapist ever suggested using a foam roller. Probably because it is more effective than they could be. And may render their services irrelevant and a huge waste of cash.

Rock hard roller
Bought this as a roller for travel in place of the 6" roller I use at home. It has no noticeable cushioning on the surface, so if you're going to put most of your body weight on this like for rolling kinks out of your back, expect it to be PAINFUL - unless maybe you have enough cushion on your own body that you don't notice...

Small but very hard (that’s NOT what she said)
Purchased this because we currently use a large foam roller. I am 5'1 and the foam roller is really large and I cannot fully relax on it, this smaller roller allows me to lay flat and let all my muscles relax. The only downfall is it is really hard versus the softer foam. In fact it bruised my husband after he used it! He did not know it did until I saw his back the next day and he had lined bruises up and down it. Did not cause him pain or anything, but dang...maybe use a softer foam!

Force your spine into alignment!
This sucker is HARD. You will cause bruising if you're not careful, but it will be worth it. Partner was able to pop a vertebrae back into place that has been out for years, even with chiropractic and physical therapy. Quite literally the best money we have spent on a roller, ever.Update: one of us used this faithfully for a few days and managed to fix a whiplash injury from water skiing 40 years ago. We did NOT expect it to work that well! I also used it to fix my neck after years of having a persistent issue on one side. I am dumbfounded at how well this works when all sorts of professional services did not. We also took it on a trip in luggage because it's so portable. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would.

Too hard
Returned it because it was very hard. No give to it!
