Buggy firmware, issues with reception/images, and more quality control problems
This is a much awaited, and expected high-end receiver, being thought to be a major update to the legendary Eton E1 with a special pre-release price of $350 around August 2019. After the initial excitement, the pandemic and supply chain issues hit; we had one delay after another; and everybody thought the receiver was just vaporware - that is, until it suddenly appeared this month! I haven't fully tested it yet, and regrettably, it appears that Eton has not fully tested the receiver either - otherwise they would not have released this just yet.For $600 of your hard earned cash, you are getting (drum roll), (1) a receiver that locks up every single time you tune to an FM HD station (freezing the screen and menu and power button, the only solution being to unplug the radio and plug it back in), (2) AM stations (images) appearing on amateur bands with no external antenna connected to cause any sort of overload (radio listening only on whip), (3), spelling mistakes in the menu system display (come on Eton, really?), and (4) the dreaded aggressive soft mute when tuning the radio in AM/SW and yes, even in SSB (why, why, why Eton?).And these observations are the result of playing with the radio for 20 minutes. Eton – did you even put this radio in the hands of an actual user, a real potential customer, to give feedback on? How is this level of poor engineering on a high-end radio acceptable to you? What happened to your testing and verification/validation processes?I am sending mine back, and you should also wait before purchasing to see if Eton gets its act together. This radio is a disaster at any price point, let alone at $600.

Junk!!! Crap!!! Garbage!!! For this kind of price muting while tuning is insane.
AGC, on or off only. 1Khz to 6 KHz bandwidth and possibly .500 KHz (if there is 500 Hz, it don't display). No atomic time, only RDS, I'm uploading videos to icloud now from my phone, when done I'll post the video putting out a radio that mutes when manual knob tuning. For $700, Etón should be ashamed for the muting. My verdict based on price and muting is, "Don't Buy!". Someone should be fired for letting this turkey go to market. I'm so sorry Etón has fallen on hard times apparently. It's so sad when by far cheaper radios from other manufacturers don't have muting and a $700 shortwave band radio does. This is the worst possible outcome of a years long wait. I just don't understand how the hell this could have been allowed to come to market?Etón, frankly, by selling this radio for $700 and not informing us of the muting, you committed a scam, because you knew damn well, no one would pay $700 for a manual tuning capable radio that mutes while tuning. It's called deceptive.

Antenna loose, can’t find/hear a single sw station and FM bleed through
I was really looking forward to this radio and paid $699 through Eton. I recently received the radio and the only thing I can honestly hear is FM bleed through. I couldn’t find a single SW station… not even one that I could barely hear. Stay away.
