When I first got them in I didn’t think I received a gallons worth, but when put them into a gallon pitcher it was almost exactly right.I haven’t used them enough to see how they work as a filter media but they seem porous so I can’t imagine they won’t work.I was impressed enough I bought another gallon of them.

So far I really like these bio balls. They are a little smaller than a quarter as you can see in my picture and are very porous. Unlike other reviewers I did receive a full gallon size of these balls. I contacted the manufacturer about the discrepancy in size before purchasing them and I was told that multiple people sell these balls, but if you buy from the CELLPETSUPPLIES storefront on Amazon you will be getting the gallon size. In my picture I've included a gallon size zip-lock and a quarter for comparison.. Hopefully these hold up; if I think about it in a year from now, I'll do an update.

These are good bio balls for the price. The only problem is that they can break easily and make a mess if you’re not careful.

My nitrates skyrocketed! Black algae developing on everything. Did everything I had read or been told to do. At my wits end, I came across a website talking about this product. Said it couldn't hurt to try. Received them. I rinsed mine and let sit in water with tap water conditioning for a bit. After about a week the nitrates are back down to normal levels! My water is now staying crystal clear! Algae is staying at bay! NOTE: I cleaned everything again before using these! Very excited and highly recommend!

This bio media is perfect for my canister filter. It is a large quantity for the price. As you can see in the picture it fills a quart size storage bag and a sandwich bag. It could've used better packaging though. It comes in a mesh bag inside a box so everything else that came with my package was super dusty.

You should buy this bio-media, this stuff works great. I've used matrix and bio pure for a while now and for the money will do the same thing. Not saying the other two products I mentioned are bad, just from the standpoint of the cost to what you get? You can't beat this stuff.

Could tell immediately that this is good media its porous af giant bag easy to just clean of by shaking gently to get access powder from it breaking apart a little in shipping and rinsed of threw it in my tank until my canister gets here in a few day and and when I did not much dust came off

Like the included bag to keep media contained, but used as biological filtration has flaws.It is very fragile and crumbles very easily, leaving a mess in your sumpIt clogs very easily over time due to the small pores and is hard to clean because it is such a rough surface.Over time IU suspect surface area is less than conventional bio-all material due to clogging.Not recommended.....
