After some research for a cutting board that was easy to handle and would help keep our knives sharp, I decided upon a Japanese hinoki board. It arrived promptly, well packaged and unblemished. The board itself is lighter than our current wooden cutting board and easy to maneuver. My wife and son commented that it looks like something you'd see in a sushi restaurant, and I agree that it is attractive. The light citrus smell of the wood also appeals to me.It feels softer when the knife hits the board when cutting fruit or vegetables than on our previous wooden or synthetic boards. It washes off easily and has retained its appearance with little if any apparent marring. I'm fine with having to replace this board in time, but I think it will last awhile with reasonable care. The wood finish is smooth and the cuts are even, lending a feeling and appearance of quality workmanship. We're happy with our purchase.

I received it yesterday and have used it a few times already. It has delightful aroma - I noticed that some people complain about the scent, but it's supposed to smell like this. As a Japanese person, I am very familiar with the scent of hinoki. It's quite strong fragrance. In Japan, it's difficult to find someone who doesn't appreciate this smell, but it could be unfamiliar to other people. What I like about this board is its lightweight nature, making it so much easier to handle and clean. I own a Boos cutting board which is great for chopping, but it's just too heavy for everyday use. I was in search for something lighter and this has been so far perfect. I hope it remains duarable without warping or chipping. I will try to update my review in a few months.

I read that it has a strong scent and was worried about that since I have terrible allergies. I noticed no smell at all. We made a side table for our RV from this. It is perfect size and can go up and come down as needed. Great product!

Board is definitely soft which is great for my Japanese knives, although given this the Board came damaged since it had no protective packaging. Splitting in some edges and dents on more edges

This board looks good, smells pleasant, is easy to clean and gentle on my Shun knives. Opted for medium size which is fine for this single cook. If you cook for larger parties, size up.

I was skeptical when I first saw the board; I thought that it might be damaged too easily by my knife or by water when cleaned. But its perfectly sturdy despite its light weight. It's small and easy to handle which makes it so easy to pick up and deposit all prepped food into a pot or pan.Very pleased with this cutting board.

This is the right size for 2 adult cooking quantity. Light to carry. But has a very weird chemical smell when in contact with water. Have some doubt about using this with food.
