The actual mermaid costume is decent quality honestly. I would have paid the price for just that piece. I ordered the 5-7 y/o size for my 4 year old who wears 5T or XS in girl's size. She's 40lb and it's loose enough to put layers under for a cold Halloween night but still fits enough to stay up on her shoulders and not drag.
