Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive: Fast Facts and Practice Questions

I accidentally bought 2 of this book. One came sealed in a package and one did not. Both had the scratch things intact for the app. My understanding is that the questions in this book are the same as in the app, it just makes it more portable. I've heard this is the best book to study with for the American NP exams, and also good for the Canadian one. I got this book with Fitzgerald and Barkley reviews to start as those are the top recommended that I've seen. I've heard that Leik is more an overview, Fitzgerald is more in depth than needs to be. Barkley is good because it comes with CDs for the car. Hopefully this review helps you begin your studying too!

I enjoyed reading the summary chapters of each system. They include normal and abnormal findings for each system, review of common diseases related to that system, clinical pearls etc. This section of the book really helped me with exams in my program as I used the book during my last year of the NP program. However, there are major improvements to be made to the book. First, it is written at a grade school level NOT at a graduate level. For example, it will say kneecap when I'm sure prospective-NPs know what a patella is. Second, the practice questions keep repeating themselves. I swear I've seen at least four questions that ask you what level the fundus should be at 12 weeks. This makes me want to pull my hair out when I want to get the most out of my precious time. Lastly and certainly not least, the book has some errors as reported by others so just be mindful.

These are fantastic for studying. I am Canadian, so not everything translates, but the questions are great, and the rationale with the answer usually includes all the options - seriously great studying buddy.Get a container to keep them in.

I went all out when studying for the FNP exam. Over 7 weeks I took both the Fitzgerald (helpful) and Hollier (less helpful) prep courses before a colleague recommended this book. It's full of helpful information and highlights material that makes for probable exam questions. On the publishing site there is a PDF for corrections so before I studied from it I went through and made all the minor corrections so I wouldn't study wrong information. I passed the exam on my first go and part of my success can no doubt be attributed to this book.

Very comprehensive without excess. I bought it used without the App. Not much of an App person, but honestly it would have come in handy.
