Updated: Jan 2021 from 1 to 5 stars; Initial: STALE, OLD, and with questionable substance on surface
The initial review left several months prior to this one is attached below. This review concerns the same item purchased later and is thus updated from 1 to 5 stars. The review is voluntary; no-one approached me or gave an incentive for changing it. The last batch (2 x 10 pound bags with the "Best Before" date 01-2025) is great. The beans cook in just about an hour (conventionally), taste great, and have very smooth, creamy texture. They are much smaller, however, but darker as well. OLD REVIEW: 1. THE BEANS ARE STALE and whereas yes, we can all be picky at times, there is just no denying that the batch I got is OLD (although the "best before date" reads 2024 !!!). 2. Yes, the beans are not completely clean, but this is normal as they were collected from nature and might have picked up some dust and stuff. This is what I thought at first. But washing that matter off the beans’ surface (see the pictures) is impossible!!! These spots resemble silicone-like coating or the paint the old electronic equipment has and now disintegrates thus becoming gooey. After rinsing the beans, I washed my hands with a soap and was shocked as my hands were still sticky from that substance on the beans. 3. Despite the hurdles described above, I cooked the beans (the way I’ve been doing for decades), and it literally took me 4 !!!!! hours before they became somewhat soft. BUT, the beans of course turned into a mass of dark spread (still with many little hard parts). I wonder how many decades the seller have been storing the beans before having sold them to me.

Exceptional
Great product great value for the money. Exceptional seller very well packaged. An exceptionally nutritious product. We cook in a pressure cooker after soaking overnight. To retain vitamins and flavors. Cooks in 5 minutes using pressure cooker.

Superb quality and great taste!
Top quality. I cooked them by doing a quick soak with hot water and boiling for 3 minutes, then letting them sit. Several hours later I pressure cooked them and they were just the perfect texture and had really great flavor. Can’t ask for any better. These will be my go-to kidney beans.

Found black beans
Found black beans in my red kidney beans. I've been buying this brand for all my beans and haven't had a problem. It seems to cook well and taste good. Some are wrinkly but this is the first time I've had a mix of beans in the red kidney. These are what I found. But there's more I just don't have time to dig through it.
