BAM! what can i say, i would never write a review. about a plumbing part, but..... great filter housing ! and also, you know, in this day and age....whoever made these filters knows how to do some manufacturing. Thanks! and alsothey apparently have filters tha fit insid ethem too hahaha

Because we are on a private owned water system and I have seen the pressure vary from 175 to 50 I did not want a plastic unit. This one says 300 lbs working pressure and by the way it appears to be built I don’t believe I will have any problems with it. But time will tell. I am very impressed with it.

Filter housing appears to be well made and should last a long time. Definitely an upgrade from the plastic ones. I’m using this with iSpring filters with no real issues. The housing does have a spring loaded center piece that goes into the bottom hole on the filter. This helps keep the filter centered in the housing. The threaded collar that attaches the housing to the top needs to be a little bit wider with more threads to help start the threaded collar against the spring pressure. It does take a fair amount of force to get the housing and top together to start the threaded collar. Because of this issues I only give it 4 stars.

This filter housing worked just as expected. The stainless steel construction makes it quite durable and, of course, resistant to corrosion and UV light. Being stainless steel, it won't suffer from degradation the way plastic does. The bottom of the housing holds the filter (filter not included), and you push it onto the upper half and tighten with the outer ring to clamp everything snugly together; a simple and really effective design. The included rod can be inserted in any hole around the ring for leverage to tighten (or loosen) the ring. I like that there is a drain on the bottom, which allows you to drain out the water prior to filter changes (making the job lighter with less spills). I like the universal design of it, there is a enough space to use this with pretty much any 10" by 4.5" filter, even if they vary a bit between brands and materials. I like that is has two seals; a ring seal that seals at the inside of the walls of the housing, and a compressive seal at the top that seals against the top rim of the bottom section of the housing. The drawback of the stainless construction is that you cannot visually inspect the filter without taking apart the housing. However, for me, the benefits of stainless steel housing outweigh that drawback. This a solid, well built stainless steel filter housing.

4 or 5 or 4.5 take your pick. Originally, I was at the 4 star level simply because of the price. Now, they have cut the price considerably and that takes me higher to at least 4.5 and maybe 5. [ Update 7/18: and now the price is back up so I'd go to 4 stars because of value] All of that is based on value, so what about the quality. There, I am 4.5 or 5 depending on how nit picky you want to get. Overall, this is solid unit and not needing to worry about it cracking a year or 2 down the road is 5+. Seriously, why anyone would install a poly-unit in a location that could cause tens of thousands of dollars in water damage with a single failure is beyond me.I looked at a dozen of the poly units and read hundreds of reviews. They all kind of read the same. Some of the poly units are great and pretty … until they crack. If you are in the 10 - 20% camp that suffers a crack even after 2, 3, 5 … whatever years you are going to regret it. Spend some extra money now and get a unit that will last a lifetime.All that said, this is all stainless steel and pretty heavy. The rest of your plumbing will fail before this unit does. The head unit weighs close to 3.5 pounds; the filter can is another 3+ pounds, and the sealing ring is another 1/2 pound. The top mounting adapter-angle is also heavy gauge steel.The can has a double seal against the head unit. One O-ring and one flat seal. Tight … yes ! The bottom of the can has a spring-loaded tapered “cap” that aligns the filter and keeps it tight at the top and bottom. The “seal” at the top of the filter is more of a press-fit that relies entirely on the spring pressure from the bottom seal pushing the top sealing ring against the top of the filter. I would have liked to seen a tapered silicon seal up there but maybe it’s not necessary. A simple measurement showed about 26 pounds of force from the spring with a filter installed.Some of the photos show a generic poly filter inserted into the can and the dimensions are fine.
