Recorded at the Forum Theatre, Los Angeles, California on July 23 & 30, 1956; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California on February 15, 1954. Includes liner notes by Richard Brock and Gerlad Heard. Few musicians were such a double threat as Chet Baker; he could blow a cool trumpet, and croon a lazy ballad or a bouncing standard with the best of them. His butter-smooth voice is featured here on his first session for Riverside, CHET BAKER SINGS IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. Of course, the great old chestnut in the title is not the only gem contained herein-Baker also swings and sings such great Rogers and Hart songs as "Do It the Hard Way, " My Heart Stood Still, " and "Dancing on the Ceiling. "Hearing the combination of Baker's lazy West Coast swing and the driving push of his East Coast sidemen on uptempo numbers like "You're Driving Me Crazy" or "My Heart Stood Still" is an undoubted treat, but it's smoky ballads such as "I'm Old Fashioned" and the swaying title track that win the most points. For lovers of great old songs sung with feeling, CHET BAKER SINGS IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU is hard to beat. If there ever was an album that cried out to be spun on vinyl, it’s this one. Just set it turning, drop the needle and suddenly you’re on a shabby couch in a college dorm room in 1953, making out with a co-ed in glasses who has no idea how cute she is or what’s she’s going to be whispering in your ear by the time the album spins to a close. Am I getting carried away? Sure — that’s what this LP, in its devious and sinuous way, is all about.

Chet Baker has become one of my favorite artists because of this record. I love putting on his records pouring a glass of whiskey and just sitting with my wife. Super relaxing. I highly reccomend

Auf diesem Album werden die Stücke versammelt, auf denen er nicht (nur) beim Trompetenspiel zu hören ist, sondern auch den Gesang beisteuert. Daran scheiden sich die Geister. Die einen sagen, er habe keine Stimme, zu dünn, zu seicht. Andere wiederum (so wie ich) finden, dass er durch seine teilweise verletzlich klingende Art eine sehr eigene Note zu den Liedern hinzufügt und damit "den Ton trifft". Sei jedem Jazz-Fan ans Herz gelegt um sich seine eigene Meinung zu bilden. Zum Vinyl: schwere, saubere Pressung in gepolsterter Innenhülle. So sollte es immer sein.

The king of cool, west coast jazz. Although fairly polarizing, Chet's voice is a thing of beauty to my ears - and has never sounded better than it does here. The man is the gold standard of the vulnerable vocal! The definitive version of My Funny Valentine is here too. Well worth the money. Pour a glass of red wine, light a candle and sit back & unwind to this masterpiece.

Oltre al 33 giri, c'è il 45 giri. Anche in altri siti vendono questo lp ma solo con il 33 giri dentro. Ed in più il 45 giri è colorato, è proprio bello. Ottimo sound. Purtroppo spedizione lunghissima, quasi 1 mese dai Paesi Bassi, mi è arrivata prima merce da Cina.
